New Zealand have already won their ODI series with Bangladesh but the show must go on and the two sides meet for the third and final time in Nelson on Saturday as they play out the final ODI of 2016.
With a T20 series to come New Zealand will be looking for a 3-0 whitewash to take into that while Bangladesh will be looking to win this match and pick up some momentum to go into the shortest format of the game with.
New Zealand
While New Zealand will have been delighted to have won the series with a match to spare against an emerging side like Bangladesh they still haven’t done anything to answer the concerns around them going into the series. That was with the bat and their 251 all out in the last game only raises those concerns. Of course they are without some big batsmen but senior players aren’t standing up.
The positive remains with the ball though and when the likes of Lockie Ferguson can come into the side and have the impact he has had it highlights both the depth they have in their bowling stocks and the quality of the plans they have in place not to mention the skills so that side of the game looks to be covered.
Bangladesh
Bangladesh will have gone into this series fancying their chances of causing an upset and having bowled well for 30 overs in both matches they will have been disappointed not just to have lost both the matches but also not to have really got close to winning. It will be interesting to see if they fare better batting first.
Much like with the Kiwis the Bangladesh top order needs to stand up and be counted. Their top four are a lot better than they have delivered in the series although to be fair they laid a decent platform in the last game. What would have annoyed them the most was that three key wickets went to the part time spin of Kane Williamson.
Team News
With the series won New Zealand are going to rest Trent Boult for this match. Jeetan Patel was called into the ODI squad after the last game and he is likely to come in here. New Zealand might shuffle their top order around.
Bangladesh may want to give those who are hanging around for future formats a game but they will also want to win. Their batting options look like with Mushfiqur’s injury and he is once again out here.
Betting
This match takes place at the same venue as the previous one and while watching that second ODI there didn’t appear to be another wicket being prepared so I’m expecting the match to take place on the same track.
As with all dead rubbers I’m not going to get too involved but there is a performance which I can’t ignore. It comes in the form of Shakib-al-Hasan who has a line of 41.5pts. He has covered that total in the field in both ODIs so far and on a wicket which is being used for the second time you would think he will have even more impact with the ball. Throw in his batting credentials and that line just looks too low.
