Skybet League 2 – Friday 30th December Matches Betting Preview

There is one more round of fixtures in League Two in 2016 and they begin on Friday night with three matches prior to the rest of the league playing their games on Saturday. This set of matches see the division reach the halfway stage so all six sides will be looking for the three points to lead themselves into 2017 with.

Cheltenham vs Wycombe

Cheltenham host Wycombe to end a positive year in which they were promoted back to the Football League. It has to be said Cheltenham have struggled this season whereas Wycombe have caught fire over the last couple of months and a win here will move them up to level on points with Portsmouth in fourth.

I expect those trends to continue in this match. Cheltenham’s home form is indifferent. They have won just one of their last nine matches at Whaddon Road and that was only a Crawley side who are average at best and even worse on the road. Wycombe are going well home and away at the minute and saw a run of six wins in a row ended at the leaders Plymouth on Boxing Day.

Even that would have felt like a win as they came from 3-1 down to equalise late on and I think the Chairboys can take that winning momentum with them and get another positive result here.

Hartlepool vs Morecambe

Two sides in the bottom six collide at the Victoria Ground as Hartlepool host Morecambe. Morecambe were very early pacesetters in the division this season but their slide since then has been strong and now they have directors and important backers leaving left right and centre.

Hartlepool have never been able to find consistency this season and look like they are going to need another excellent second half of the campaign to drag themselves away from danger at the bottom of the table. Given the poor form and inconsistencies of both this isn’t a game to bet on.

Yeovil vs Portsmouth

The match of the day comes from Huish Park as Yeovil host promotion chasing Portsmouth and indeed Portsmouth can move to within two points of the automatic places with a win here. Yeovil will go up three places with a win of their own.

Yeovil were flying up the league a month or so back but a run of one win in five matches has halted that progress. Portsmouth seem unable to put back to back wins together at the minute so the fact they won last time out might not be a good thing.

Were Portsmouth odds against I might have chanced them here but the fact they went 2-0 down to Newport before coming back on Boxing Day highlights a soft side to them still and they might have half an eye on Monday’s big match with Luton so I’ll sit this out too.
