The third and final match of a busy but spectacular Thanksgiving Day treble header of action in the NFL sees us staying in the NFC for yet another divisional battle as the New Orleans Saints host the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC South.
The Saints are cruising towards the divisional title and a win here will put them within striking distance of claiming that success but they will be out for the number one seed in the Conference so they need to keep winning. Atlanta need to find a winning run if they are to be around in January.
New Orleans Saints
When the New Orleans Saints dropped their opening match of the season at home to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and then laboured to a win over Cleveland Browns in their second game few would have thought nine weeks later they would be 9-1 for the campaign. They are though courtesy of a nine match winning streak which in truth is showing no signs of ending.
The Saints offense is about as powerful as there is in the league but they have been playing some good defence in recent weeks as well and that has been a potent combination. On Thanksgiving Day against a divisional opponent you get the feeling they could produce something pretty special if they are given the opportunity here.
Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons go into this match with a 4-6 record but in fairness to them only one of those seven defeats have been by more than one score so it isn’t like they are getting blown away very often. What they can’t do is control the final quarter well enough to get the job done. They also struggle to finish drives off which has been a real problem of theirs so far this term.
Added to that is their defence hasn’t been fantastic. They have leaked 28pts or more five times in their 10 matches to date and it doesn’t take a brain surgeon to work out that is not a good record. You should never write off the Falcons though. Any team that has the number of playmakers on offense that they have should never be discounted.

Betting
I expect the New Orleans Saints to win this match but you have to respect the Atlanta Falcons enough to think covering 12.5pts won’t be easy. I’m not saying the Saints won’t cover it but it is a big handicap to be asking them to cover in a divisional match off a short week in a game where in truth it is just about winning and moving on.
I’ll leave the handicap alone completely though and focus on the touchdowns where the 6.5 line is begging to have the over piled into. These two sides have already played one match where they combined for 80 points and 10 touchdowns and I see something similar here. Both teams are pure power on offense and in what could easily turn into a shootout I see seven touchdowns. If it doesn’t go that way you would think we will see a New Orleans blowout in which case they could cover the line. However it is done I’ll plough into the over.
