The final match of the NFL week is a huge NFC East clash as the champions Philadelphia Eagles sit at the bar of the last chance saloon when they host the Washington Redskins in a Monday Night Football with a mountain of implications.
The Redskins were top of the division two weeks ago but Dallas have wriggled clear now. A win for Washington here will put them on the same record as the Cowboys though. Philadelphia probably need to win out for the chance to defend their Super Bowl crown.
Philadelphia Eagles
The champions have really not got going this season but they head into this match off the back of an important win over the New York Giants last week and if they can back that up with another here to go 6-6 for the campaign they will remain in the hunt for one of the wildcard berths. Defeat here would put them 5-7 and with two sides in the NFC 7-5 the Eagles would probably need snookers.
If the Eagles are going to make a late dart to the playoffs then they are going to need to start scoring points more regularly than they have been. This is a league which is all about big plays, offensive stars and plenty of points now and Philadelphia scoring more than 25pts just once all season is not going to cut it in the present time.
Washington Redskins
A couple of weeks ago the Washington Redskins were 6-3 and seemingly coasting to the NFC East title but since then they have lost their quarterback Alex Smith to a horrendous injury and have dropped two matches on the bounce. Colt McCoy hasn’t necessarily been terrible in those matches but the injuries around Alex Smith is crippling the offense at a time they can ill afford it.
I think we can allow the Redskins the loss to Houston two weeks ago as that was the match that they lost Smith during, but ultimately they have lost three of their last four matches and that is a slump they will need to end here. They need to get back to the side that were restricting teams from piling up points and look to have an ideal chance for that here.

I think the Washington Redskins with the start has to be the way forward in this one. I’m not convinced they are going to relaunch a charge for the playoffs all of a sudden but a six point start against a team that has only scored more than 25pts once all season strikes me as quite a big help.
We saw last week that the Eagles still have it in them to get the job done in a tight situation but they made such hard work of seeing off the Giants, who in truth largely played into their hands down the stretch. If Colt McCoy can play a safe game and Adrian Peterson can take advantage of not the best rushing defence then the Redskins can stay within six points if not do much better than that.
