It hasn’t always been the case this season, but the Sunday Night Football sees the best game of the week taking place when the exciting Baltimore Ravens take on the brilliant New England Patriots in a real glamour contest.
The Patriots head to Maryland undefeated this season while the Ravens are 5-2 for the campaign and could do with a win to keep the suddenly surging Pittsburgh Steelers at bay over in the AFC North. This could be a playoff match at some point so both will want to lay down a marker here.
Baltimore Ravens
There is an excitement building in Baltimore thanks to the brilliance of Lamar Jackson, who has the potential to take them to the next level with his variety at quarterback. His running ability mixed with his passing strength makes opposing defences having to guess plays if they are going to stop him. The big question surrounding the talented trigger man is whether he can do it on primetime with the big lights on him. We’ll find out here.
You would have to think that Jackson will be shackled in some ways in this match. It is what Belichick and his coaching staff does after all, so the Baltimore defence will need to provide decent support here. Usually on the big nights the Baltimore defence rises to the party and the trade of Marcus Peters has undoubtedly helped them on that side of the ball so it will be interesting to see what they have up their sleeve here.
New England Patriots
The New England Patriots head into the match 8-0 for the season but in many ways this is their toughest test, on the road to take on a talented quarterback, the kind that New England have historically struggled against, and a defence who will up their game on Primetime. None of this bothers the New England Patriots usually though and if they win this match a lot of talk of the perfect season will escalate.
In a quirky sort of way the Patriots have done a U-turn on their previous form. In the past their offense has often covered for a poorer defence but this season their offense hasn’t fired on all cylinders but their defence has looked about as elite as it comes. It will be interesting to see how that defence goes about coping with the challenge in front of them here but you would be surprised if they don’t have something up their sleeve.
Betting
I’m expecting a really good match here but I’m not so convinced I’m expecting a high scoring one. Baltimore Ravens matches have in the main been high scoring this season but things have gone a little quiet for them in recent times in terms of points for and against. I don’t need to repeat the defensive statistics for the New England Patriots. I’ve mentioned them enough in recent weeks.
I guess there is the feeling that Lamar Jackson could trouble the Patriots defence enough to make this higher scoring than previous Patriots matches but you would think he will have to go through the air to do that as New England will surely look to stifle his ground game. No team has scored more than 14pts against the Patriots this season and while Baltimore might go slightly higher I don’t think between the two there will be more than 44.5pts. While the Patriots defence is firing nicely, their offense hasn’t been quite so prolific so under looks the play to me.
