The NFL season is getting through at a crazy pace and Week 11 of the campaign begins with another divisional battle on Thursday night when the Cleveland Browns host the AFC North rivals Pittsburgh Steelers in a big game for the visitors.
The Browns went into the campaign hyped up to the hilt but it was ever only that. They’ve never threatened to live up to that. Despite plenty of things going against them, the Steelers now have a winning record which they will look to build on here.
Cleveland Browns
It hasn’t been the season that everyone linked with the Browns will have wanted or expected going into it, but they did win last week and if they can make it successive wins here, although it might be too late to launch a playoff run, they can at least build something to take into next season with them. There is absolutely no doubt that they should be doing a lot better than they are with the personnel available but all they can do is win now and see where it takes them.
Their defence has probably underperformed at times this term, but the biggest problem has been the up and down nature of the form of Baker Mayfield. When you have the likes of Odell Beckham Jr and Kareem Hunt in your offense you should be performing a lot better than that unit has done, and they’ll certainly need to perform here because they are up against an elite defence which seems to be getting better every time we see it.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Despite being without their first two choices at quarterback at times this season, the Pittsburgh Steelers are 5-4 for their campaign which includes a four match winning streak, which they take to Ohio looking to extend in this matchup. Solid rather than spectacular quarterback play has been the foundation for their recent run with a defence that is getting better with every game they play together.
Slowly but surely there is a decent tune being played out of the offense for the Steelers as well as the quality they are showing on defence. One is probably significantly helping the other. The better their defence is playing, the less pressure on their offence to work harder to deliver the goods. It is a decent combination but they need to prove themselves here with a few things against them such as the short week and the pressure being on them.
Betting
The Cleveland Browns might have edged out the Buffalo Bills last week but they didn’t do a whole lot to inspire me into thinking that they are going to be the side many expected them to be at the beginning of the season. I’m liking the way Pittsburgh Steelers are going about their business, especially on the defensive side of the ball although their offense was a little bit suspect against a decent Los Angeles defence last week.
I hate backing away sides on Thursday night but I just can’t avoid the Steelers in this match. Even if it is their defence that has to get the job done for them I still think they can do that. Whether it is turnovers in their secondary or this extremely underrated pass rush of theirs I think the defence will get the job done and I think they have enough on offense to win what is likely to be a relatively tight match.
