NFL 2020 – Arizona Cardinals @ Dallas Cowboys Tips and Betting Preview

The second part of the double header in the Monday Night Football this week comes from Texas where the Dallas Cowboys will be looking to extend their lead in the NFC East when they host the Arizona Cardinals.

The Cardinals make the journey to Dallas knowing they need a win to keep up any kind of pace with the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC West but having shown some solid signs at various times this season they certainly won’t be huge outsiders.

Dallas Cowboys

There will be plenty of attention on the Dallas Cowboys in this match as they will be without their starting quarterback Dak Prescott who suffered a horrendous compound leg fracture last week. Andy Dalton is a steady backup but he’s no longer the number one in Cincinnati for a reason. You would think the Cowboys will now get back to the team they were a couple of years ago when they rode the running capabilities of Ezekiel Elliott.

That might not be a bad thing for a couple of reasons. The first of those is that Elliott is one of the best rushers in the National Football League while the other obvious thing if they are running the ball more often is their extremely leaky defence won’t have to be on the field for as long as it might be, so there is a two way win there. That plan may go out of the window if they fall behind early though so it is imperative that the Cowboys are competitive early.

Arizona Cardinals

There was a little more pressure and expectation on the Arizona Cardinals this season which is pretty natural when you look at the weapons they have acquired to go alongside exciting and capable quarterback Kyler Murray. Murray has shown his class already and has led his side to a 3-2 record. It might have been that with the added scrutiny on the side there would be a few disconcerting voices not happy at the two losses but relatively low crowds and two very good teams in the division have tempered that.

Murray has shown all of his all-round skills this season and much like Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes, his legs open up a varied offense. DeAndre Hopkins’ move before the season started was a huge one for the birds and if their defence holds up then Arizona will fancy their chances here. The doubt that centres on them is their three wins have come over a bashed up San Francisco, an average Washington and a terrible New York Jets side. They get to prove themselves here even allowing for the Prescott absence.

Betting

It remains to be seen just how much more of the ball Ezekiel Elliott is going to get under the Andy Dalton offense but you’ve got to think it will be more than he was getting with Dak Prescott breaking all records in the passing game. Even if he doesn’t see a whole lot more in terms of carries I still think his 88.5 rushing yards line looks a little on the low side, particularly if the Cowboys can get themselves in front early.

There have been plenty of calls in the Dallas area to get Zeke back involved in the offensive game to get them back to the levels they were at when he burst onto the scene and now would seem the perfect chance to give him more carries as they ease Dalton into the quarterback role. Whether he sees a lot more of the ball or not Elliott will be out to show he should be used more and I expect him to carry the ball for more than 88.5 yards here.
