NFL 2020 – Kansas City Chiefs @ Buffalo Bills Tips and Betting Preview

With Covid-19 not excluding the National Football League from its grasp we have an extra match in the Monday Night Football this week with the first game being the one which was meant to be played on Thursday night as the Buffalo Bills host the Kansas City Chiefs in what might be a preparation for the AFC Championship game later in the season.

Both teams go into this match off the back of disappointing defeats last week so if being on primetime wasn’t enough to get the juices flowing not wanting to suffer successive losses will certainly do it so we should get a cracker of a game here.

Buffalo Bills

In many ways you had to feel an ounce of sympathy for the Buffalo Bills last week. There was so much upheaval over whether their match with the Tennessee Titans would actually go ahead or not that it would have been easy for their preparation to be affected. I’m not saying that was why they lost so heavily but uncertainty creates doubt and that brings a poor performance about. There have been no such issues here because the game was moved straight away and hasn’t changed since.

The Bills defence was gashed last week and if it is getting smashed to pieces by the Tennessee Titans then it is likely to come under heavy pressure against the Chiefs as well so it would not be the most illogical piece of thinking to suggest that Josh Allen is going to need his strong arm to good use to keep his side in the game here. It would help if the Bills can run the ball well and give their defence as little time as possible on the field but they rank worst in the league for that discipline.

Kansas City Chiefs

If the Bills’ loss to the Titans was understandable the Kansas City Chiefs’ defeat to the Las Vegas Raiders was a real surprise. They looked flat on both sides of the ball and whether they thought their superior record over Las Vegas from their days in Oakland meant that they could take it easy or it was something else I’m not sure but they found out the hard way if they needed such a reminder that the NFL doesn’t work like that.

I don’t think we need to do too much guessing in what to expect here. The Chiefs offense is extremely powerful and now that they have added Le’Veon Bell to the ranks it is probably even more balanced than it was before if that is possible. The weakness is on defence but that is a unit that can still make plays at the right time but you would think if the Chiefs are going to win this it will be through a barrage of offense rather than defence.

Betting

Initially I was going to look at the total points for this match but it is a bit on the high line at 56.5 for my liking. I say that because I’ve already lost two overs this week in one-sided matches where the beaten team were unable to do anything offensively when just an average game would have brought the over in. I still expect to see plenty of points here but I think I’ll side on the line for the Kansas City Chiefs rather than the total just in case Josh Allen throws a costly interception or two again.

It wasn’t too long ago that the Chiefs put up 34 points on a very good Baltimore Ravens defence and they’ve gone past this 30.5pt line three times in their five matches this season. While Buffalo are catching the eye offensively, their pass defence has been very indifferent and you’ve got to think that Patrick Mahomes with all his receiving options will feast all over that. The Chiefs backs can all catch passes as well so the Kansas City power offense should be more than good enough to go beyond 30.5 points here.
