The final match of another entertaining week in the NFL comes along as always in the Monday Night Football which this time promises to be one of the matches of the season as the last two regular season MVPs meet as the Baltimore Ravens host the Kansas City Chiefs.
This is the match that is exactly to be the AFC Championship match at the end of the season so there is the opportunity for both teams to lay something of a marker down in a match where two of the most potent offenses collide.
Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens have looked the real deal in their first two matches. They have married a spellbinding offense with strong defence and already look like they are going to take a lot of beating this season. If it wasn’t for the strength of the Pittsburgh Steelers this term, we could be looking at a Ravens side who might have pushed for an unbeaten season should they come out of this one unscathed. That is unlikely but they look incredibly strong.
When an elite star breaks onto the scene there is always that concern of whether he is going to be a one season wonder. To be fair there was never a suggestion that would be the case for Lemar Jackson, but to ensure that it isn’t the Ravens offense has changed dynamic so far and is not relying on the running ability of their quarterback, instead he is getting the job done through the passing game and a couple of very talented running backs. Chuck in a still strong defence and the Ravens look a Super Bowl outfit in waiting.

Kansas City Chiefs
The team the Baltimore Ravens are looking to emulate are the reigning Super Bowl champions Kansas City Chiefs, a side who themselves have added an extra dimension to their side. What was already an extremely powerful and potent offense led by the amazing Patrick Mahomes has gained a weapon in the form of running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire who is already delivering good things in his rookie season in the league.
Kansas City need their offense to deliver the goods because they aren’t as strong defensively as some teams in the league. That isn’t to say that they are terrible but the numbers suggest there is a huge improvement needed in their run defence, which is likely to get heavily tested here. Their secondary can be a weakness as well although whether Jackson tests them remains to be seen. One further concern is how they keep falling behind in games. So far Mahomes has always got them out of trouble but there will be a team when that doesn’t happen.
Betting
I think the Ravens will win this match but they are odds on and favourites and I’m not really all that interested in chasing a point spread so I’ll leave that option alone and take my punt in the fairly obvious bet but one which I expect to come in. That is of course the over on the points line. These two sides are absolutely loaded with special magic on offense and certainly in the case of the Chiefs the defences can be got at by these powerful units.
I was interesting when the odds and lines for this week’s matches went up what the point line would be for this match. I was wondering whether it would go up near the 60s but actually it is perfectly fair at 54.5pts. You’ve got to think both teams will close in on 30 points each and one of them will go beyond it and win the game. Sometimes you would be reluctant to take the over in a Ravens game as they can run the clock down by running the ball but actually their run game is that powerful and the Chiefs rushing defence so ordinary that they might struggle to take that much time off the clock with the run. This is being billed as a magnificent match. Often they fail to live up to the hype. I don’t think that will be the case here though. I’m on the over.
