The final match of another busy Sunday in the NFL comes from the Levis Stadium where the San Francisco 49ers take on the Green Bay Packers in a Sunday Night Football which pits two of the best sides in the NFC together.
The 49ers head into this battle off the back of successive wins to begin their season whereas the Packers have had an emphatic defeat and a rebound win with which to kick off their campaign so this one is already nicely poised.
San Francisco 49ers
You’d be fibbing if you were to say that the San Franciso 49ers have been perfect in their opening two wins but this early in the season it is all about getting into a good position and off to a strong start, especially for the 9ers who are in the toughest division of the lot. They are off to that promising beginning and now it is about building and beginning to dominate matches. This might be the best game for San Francisco as they will know there is no way they can win this unless they play at their best.
All eyes will be on Jimmy Garoppolo here. He hasn’t been fantastic this season when you consider the strong receiving options that he has. Part of that might be because he feels unwanted after he was the rumoured option in a trade with the Green Bay Packers for the man he goes up against here in Aaron Rodgers. Garoppolo has the advantage of knowing his defence are likely to help him out but a couple of key running backs have gone down for the 49ers so the quarterback is more important than usual for them.

Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers have had a bit of a rollercoaster of a start to the season. They were absolutely abject on both sides of the ball in their opening week loss to the New Orleans Saints and although they got the better of the Detroit Lions last week, you couldn’t really argue much of a case for them being that strong. They just held their nerve a little better than the Lions in the second half and managed their way to victory rather than powered home.
One problem for the Packers is both of their lines. They are missing key pass rushers which is denying then the chance to get to the quarterback and they are not protecting Aaron Rodgers particularly well or opening up holes for the running backs to pound through. Aaron Jones did have four touchdowns last week but three of those were receiving ones. The backfield for the Packers hasn’t looked great either which is another huge concern.
Betting
This is a really intriguing clash between San Francisco 49ers and the Green Bay Packers who have the quarterback the 49ers were courting throughout much of the off season. Jimmy Garoppolo should see that as motivation to stand up and deliver a top performance here and if he does that then I’ve got to think the more rounded 49ers will keep up their undefeated record this season. They look to have stronger lines and their defence could really enjoy themselves here.
The 49ers are only being asked to cover a field goal here which I think is well within their range. Even if they don’t inspire on offense they probably only need to be solid enough to put up enough points to win this because you could see the San Francisco pass rush causing all kinds of problems. Detroit Lions got to Rodgers a lot last week and had three sacks and the 49ers defensive line are a level above that one. Unless Rodgers has one of his inspirational nights I’ve got to think San Francisco win and cover the spread.
