There is one match left in Week 10 of the NFL 2021 season and it comes along in the Monday Night Football, which this week is a battle in the NFC West as the San Francisco 49ers play host to the Los Angeles Rams in a pivotal game.
The Rams go into the contest with a 7-2 record for the season and they will move to within half a game of the Arizona Cardinals in the race for the division with a win here. The 49ers begin the evening 3-5 for the season and their campaign might well be on the line here.
San Francisco 49ers
There was a lot more optimism about the San Francisco 49ers at the beginning of this season with all their injured players back. The assumption was that they couldn’t possibly have such a bad run of injuries again this term but there must be some sort of curse over Levi’s Stadium because they are decimated by players being out again this season. They do have Jimmy Garoppolo back and George Kittle is closing in on a return but defensively they are missing so many.
They paid the price for that in their loss to the Arizona Cardinals last week. Ordinarily losing to the Cardinals this season isn’t a huge negative but to lose to one which was without Kyler Murray, DeAndre Hopkins and A.J. Green is not quite as forgivable. With the defence suffering like it is there is more pressure on the offense to deliver the goods. To be fair to Jimmy G he has played ok since he came back from injury but he is woefully short of weapons.

Los Angeles Rams
Weapons is something the Rams certainly don’t lack for. They were strong on the offensive side of the ball anyway, ranking third in most of the offensive metrics going into this week, but then they add Odell Beckham Jr to their roster and for all he comes with a sideshow and controversy, he also offers one of the best deep ball threats in football and for a gunslinger like Matthew Stafford at quarterback it shouldn’t surprise anyone if they become a match made in heaven.
The other side of the ball the Rams look as strong as ever and they still have Von Miller to join that unit as well. He isn’t slated to play here but when he does if he fits in then the Rams’ push for a one stop charge at the Super Bowl will carry plenty of weight. They just need to be careful about turning the ball over. That got them behind last week, albeit to a very good looking Tennessee Titans side, and they couldn’t get it back. If Stafford manages the game the Rams look a class above.
Betting
I think this match is all about the Los Angeles Rams and their offense. If they play a tidy game then Matthew Stafford and his receiving core should feast on this weakened San Francisco 49ers offense and they should win this going away. If the 49ers defence can’t keep tabs on an Arizona Cardinals outfit missing Kyler Murray, DeAndre Hopkins and A.J. Green then you wonder how they are going to stop an even stronger Los Angeles Rams offense.
The other problem the 49ers will have is that the Rams are decent enough defensively, both in the pass rush and deeper in their defence so this really does look like a tough assignment at the wrong time for the home side. The spread here is 3.5pts and I am not a fan of backing road sides with that extra 0.5pt on the line because if the match is close then they’ll take a field goal win and run for the hills but really if the Rams are tidy here there should be a much bigger gulf between these two than a field goal.
