NFL 2024 – Indianapolis Colts @ Minnesota Vikings Tips and Betting Preview

An entertaining and busy Sunday in the NFL 2024 season concludes with the Sunday Night Football where this week the attention is on the Minnesota Vikings and the Indianapolis Colts as they face off against each other.

The Vikings started the season really well but have dropped their last two matches and will be wanting a return to winning ways here. The Colts are at a bit of a crossroads here but a win will give them a winning record for the season.

Minnesota Vikings

After starting the season winning their opening five matches, the Minnesota Vikings have lost their last two games and have allowed the Detroit Lions to steal a bit of a march on them in the NFC North table, while the Green Bay Packers have closed in on them too. With those two meeting prior to this game, a win here will pit the Vikings right back in the mix in what is fast becoming the toughest division in football. Defeat would leave them with plenty of work to do over the remainder of the season.

The Minnesota defence has been the issue in the last two matches. They have conceded 30 points on both occasions and while they have an offense which can get involved in shootouts, they are better served playing from in front and managing the clock with their run game and allowing the defence to get plenty of rest. They will be hoping that defence can get back to where it was prior to their London trip and they would have every chance here.

Indianapolis Colts

The Indianapolis Colts can’t seem to get any consistency going this season. When they put a couple of wins together and look like they are starting to crack it they throw in a sloppy defeat and that has all accounted for a 4-4 record. That isn’t a disaster but they probably feel that they are better than that. Having already seen the Houston Texans lose this week, the door is open for them to launch a bid to get right into AFC South title contention here.

The big problem with the colts recently has been at quarterback. The injury to Anthony Richardson looked like it would derail their plans but then Joe Flacco came in and started playing really well only for Richardson to flatter to deceive when he returned. They have chosen to go with the veteran Flacco as the starter here and it will be interesting to see if he can direct the offense as a starter and not just a backup. The Colts will be hoping that their defence can help out with some big plays too.

Betting

This feels a bit of a trappy game because we don’t truly know what we are going to get out of the Indianapolis Colts such is their inconsistency and at the same token we aren’t really any the wiser with the Minnesota Vikings given that their defence has fallen apart since linebacker Blake Cashman came out of the side with a toe injury. Joe Flacco being the starter for the Colts just muddies the water a little bit but I’ll side with a player prop bet for the game.

That comes in the form of the rushing yards of Jonathan Taylor, who returned from injury last week with 105 yards from just 20 carries against the Houston Texans. Since Cashman went down the Vikings have understandably coughed up rushing yards. The two Detroit running backs ran for 147 yards from just 24 carries while last week Kyren Williams got to 97 yards from just 23 carries. Unless the Colts fall behind you would imagine with their passing game a little inconsistent that they will ride the wave of their running game so the 72.5 rushing yards line of Taylor looks low enough to cover. He has covered this in his last four matches and can do so again here.
