As is the tradition on Thanksgiving Day, the Dallas Cowboys will host the middle match of the triple header and their match on the holiday for the NFL 2024 season sees them hosting their NFC East rivals New York Giants.
This is a campaign which both sides will know needed to be a whole lot better than it has been and other than some holiday cheer and a bit of pride there is little on the line for either of these two in terms of a competitive season nature.
Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys always felt like they were going to be undercooked heading into the season given the drawn out contract issues with Dak Prescott but I don’t think anyone expected them to continue to struggle this deep into the campaign. It should be acknowledged that injuries certainly haven’t helped them across the course of the year but I would be surprised if anyone saw the Cowboys being 4-7 for the season coming at any point.
Technically, should they win their last six matches there is a chance they could secure a wildcard spot, and to their credit they had a good win over the Washington Commanders last week to hopefully kick their final third of the year into life. That win ended a run of five defeats in succession but it gives them something to build on. With key defensive players returning there is a chance for Dallas to go on a run but it is now or never for them.

New York Giants
The New York Giants probably didn’t have the same expectation on their shoulders as the Dallas Cowboys did but they will be all too aware that a 2-9 record is completely unacceptable for the talent that they have on their roster. Usually when teams struggle like this there are repercussions throughout the campaign and then at the end of it and the first real big casualty of what has gone on is the quarterback Daniel Jones, who was initially dropped and then released.
The fact that the Giants are going tin a different direction with their quarterback already tells us that they have given up on this season and with nowhere to go from here that seems fair enough. It will be interesting to see what they can offer with Tommy DeVito but you get the impression that they will be drafting a quarterback. The Giants have lost their last six and have scored single digits in three of those games so the offense needs a lot of surgery before the 2025 season begins.
Betting
Both of these teams enter this match with backup quarterbacks and their season largely done but this is always a big occasion for the Dallas Cowboys and on home soil in front of a demanding owner their players should be looking at this contest as a chance to repair a little bit of the damage that has been done with this disastrous campaign. While both have backup trigger men, the experience of Cooper Rush in the Dallas Cowboys offense makes me think they will win the game.
Dallas have just overcome a decent Washington Commanders side at the same time that the New York Giants were getting smashed up by a weaker Tampa Bay Buccaneers outfit. Their offense has really struggled in recent times and I don’t expect anything to have changed in the space of the short week. Dallas have a defence which can get the job done and a quarterback which is in tune with the offense and I would expect them to run out winners between these two for the second time this season.
