Tuesday at the Olympics is another heavy day of sporting action as more gold medals will be won and sports continue to head towards their conclusion later in the week. Team GB are on for a record haul of medals and it will be interesting to see how many they can get on Tuesday.

Other Events
Plenty of team events continue on Tuesday including the regular ones like handball, volleyball, hockey and water polo while the women’s football semi-finals also take place on Tuesday. Badminton, equestrian and the basketball also head towards their conclusions.
Team GB Watch
Great Britain have plenty of medal hopes in the sports we are previewing separately but they also have a chance in the diving when Jack Laugher looks to follow up his synchro gold with an individual one while Nile Wilson will go medal hunting in the horizontal bar in the gymnastics arena.
Equestrian
The team jumping hits the second qualifier stage on Tuesday. After the first round of qualifying only Brazil and Germany made it through without a single penalty and that is the second round of jumping in these Olympics that Germany have had three riders go clear after their team in the three day eventing produced the same thing in the show jumping final day.
In the end France won the team event in that competition but that was done largely in the earlier two events than the jumping so I’m not so sure they will be threats here while Great Britain’s riders don’t look to be in the best form in these games so I’ll rule them out.
We saw in the pole vault final on Monday the effect a home games can have on athletes so Brazil can’t be ruled out and at 10/1 they would be a value bet and one I certainly wouldn’t put anyone off taking but the Germans have been riding well in all the events and I expect their big stage experience to come to the fore and at 6/4 they are my bet after the first qualifying round.
Diving
Confidence is a big thing in sport and Jack Laugher can’t be lacking in it after his gold in the synchro last week but he took a while to get going in qualifying for the individual and while he eventually went into the semi-final in fifth place he didn’t make me feel like running down and sticking cash on him.
It will be a heavy day of diving for the divers in this competition with the semi-final and the final on one busy day on Tuesday and that in itself tells us we should probably steer clear as it does add a different dynamic from what we’ve seen so far so I will leave that alone.
Gymnastics
It is the final day of artistic gymnastics on Tuesday with the last three apparatus finals. All eyes will be on the last one of those from a Great Britain point of view as Nile Wilson heads into the horizontal bar final as the second best qualifier but just over 0.4pts separated all eight qualifiers so seeking value there is a tough task.
The other two finals don’t really throw up any betting interest for us either so we’ll bank the money we won on Max Whitlock earlier in the games and leave the gymnastics betting there.
Swimming
Having nailed the winner of the women’s open water 10km marathon on Monday it is time to look at the men’s race which takes place on Tuesday. Most people were expecting some rough water just off the Copacabana beach on Monday but what we got were pretty flat and benign conditions which actually played into the hands of the pool swimmers.
It remains to be seen what we get on Tuesday but if conditions are flat then the reigning world champion Jordan Wilimovsky is going to take all the beating. He has already finished fourth in the 1500m in the pool and that shows how well he is swimming. He won the world title by a crazy 12 seconds last year and his work ethic and desire to improve makes him a worthy favourite.
The Dutch are going well in these Games and having won the women’s event they will be looking for the double with Ferry Weertman while defending champion Oussama Mellouli will be hoping to retain his title. His form isn’t the greatest though so I’m firmly with the American in this race.
