PDC World Darts Championship 2022 – 2nd Quarter Tips and Betting Preview

We continue our look at the quarter markets for the PDC World Championship draw with a look at the second section in a bid to identify the semi-finalist, or some value, from the 24 player field that makes up the quarter.

James Wade and Dimitri Van den Bergh are scheduled to be on a collision course in the quarter final of this section but neither have fantastic records in this competition so that might make for a wide open quarter.

Draw

(4) James Wade v Maik Kuivenhoven/Ky Smith

(29) Vincent van der Voort v Adam Hunt/Boris Krcmar

(13) Joe Cullen v Ted Evetts/Jim Williams

(20) Simon Whitlock v Martijn Kleermaker/John Michael

(5) Dimitri Van den Bergh v Florian Hempel/Martin Schindler

(28) Devon Petersen v Jamie Hughes/Raymond Smith

(12) Krzysztof Ratajski v Steve Lennon/Madars Razma

(21) Mervyn King v Ryan Joyce/Roman Benecky

Preview

Once again I’ve split up the quarter into a red half and a green half to make it easier to work through. James Wade will be expected to win the red half and make the quarter final but you have to go back to 2013 for the last time he won a quarter in this tournament and he’s only been to the quarter final three times since then. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if someone like Vincent van der Voort was to see him off in the last 32. You would imagine Joe Cullen and Simon Whitlock will meet in the last 16 but Martijn Kleermaker and Jim Williams are more than capable on their day.

In the green section of the draw Dimitri Van den Bergh will be a heavy favourite to make the quarter final and with the format increasing as it does, it might be that his toughest assignment is his opening one. I say that because Devon Petersen has lost all his form and you never know how fit Jamie Hughes is. Krzysztof Ratajski seems to have a lot of admirers but I’m not convinced set play suits him and he still doesn’t truly convince me on the big stage. Mervyn King is due a good run here and he’s in good form.

Betting

I’m already on Dimitri Van den Bergh to win the tournament and I really like him to come through the green section of this quarter so I think I’ll hunt out some value in the red part of it as a sort of saver in case anything goes wrong with Van den Bergh in a quarter final match, an outing which we must remember will be on New Year’s Day which might open up the potential for a sloppy performance at some stage of a match.

The doubling of Simon Whitlock and Joe Cullen do not convince me and that sort of thing always comes back to bite in set play so if we consider that Wade’s record here makes him vulnerable then Vincent van der Voort could be value in the red section. He has made the fourth round of the UK Open and the quarter finals of the Players Championship this year so probably wishes the tournament was held in Minehead, but he also made the last 16 here last year and is twice a quarter finalist in this event. When Van der Voort beat Noppert at the Players Championship he averaged 98.56 so he’s still more than capable of world class darts and in a half which could open right up the 25/1 on him to win the quarter could be a tasty saver to the Van den Bergh outright.
