There is one more quarter of the PDC World Championship draw to look at and it is the bottom section of the bracket where there are some huge names and no fewer than five world champions looking to make it into the semi-final.
This quarter looks a bit like a tournament in itself so whoever comes out of it will certainly be battle-hardened going into the 2022 part of the competition. There is plenty of value to be had should Michael van Gerwen not get the job done too.

Preview
If you have read the other quarter previews you will know that I have split the section up into a red half and a green half with the red half containing the main man in the field in Michael van Gerwen. MVG lost in the quarter final to Dave Chisnall last year and the pair are seeded to meet again in the last 16 match in the red half. That is not guaranteed though because Luke Humphries has a pretty good record in the competition and he’s also in this part of the draw. Chris Dobey and the two Rodriguez’s are campaign of decent runs too.
Looking at the green half and this is just a minefield. Three former world champions are among the qualifiers in it to add to the two who are seeded so whoever comes through here is going to have thrown some seriously good darts. Gary Anderson is the pick of the seeds and a potential second round match with Adrian Lewis whets the appetite as does Rob Cross against Raymond van Barneveld. Ian White and Daryl Gurney are probably left wondering what they’ve done to be in this quarter.

Betting
This is almost a section where unless you are hot on Michael van Gerwen you just close your eyes and pick someone to give you a run for your money. Of course I’m not going to do that, I’ll look to apply some form and other analysis to whittle things down and I actually think the better place to be might be in that minefield green half because if you choose someone who hasn’t got a monster second round draw then the one thing you know is that whoever your player faces as we go along will be playing someone who has had a tough assignment prior.
Daryl Gurney will be a strong favourite to see off Ricky Evans and make it into the third round where he would face either Rob Cross or possibly Raymond van Barneveld and while that is a tough game, both have patches where their form isn’t what you would expect so that would be winnable. From there the quarter could open right up so at 20/1 I think Gurney could be value in this section. He made it to the quarter final last year where Gerwyn Price took him out in a deciding set. It is fair to say 2021 hasn’t been great for ‘Superchin’ but he did make the quarter final of the Players Championship where he lost in a deciding leg to Ryan Searle with a near 102 average. He beat Michael Smith and James Wade in the earlier stages of that event with a 104 average against Wade so the Northern Irishman might just be rounding into form at the right time. If he is then 20/1 to make the last four is a big price.
