We are getting closer to the first darts being thrown at the PDC World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace on Sunday evening but before we get there we have just enough time to take a look at the final quarter of the draw.
Michael van Gerwen is no stranger to winning this tournament and this is the quarter he’ll be looking to do it from this time around. Gary Anderson looms large as a danger though in what looks a really tasty section of this draw.

Preview
This is another open quarter but one which has a bit more of a lopsided feel to it compared to the others. I say that because the two standout names and fancied runners in it are both in the same half of the section. Michael van Gerwen and Gary Anderson are both in the red section and could meet in the round of 16 in the red half. Brendan Dolan and Ross Smith will want a say in that as will Jeffrey de Graaf and Jim Williams but really it would be a surprise if those two superstars don’t meet towards the end of 2024.
The green section is a lot more open with Dave Chisnall a vulnerable seed. He has confessed in a column he has done that he is full of flu at the minute and there is talk that he is struggling with his back and had to alter his throw as a result. Dimitri Van den Bergh is the next highest seed but his form has dropped off a cliff in the second half of the year so the German pair of Martin Schindler and Gabriel Clemens will certainly fancy their chances, as will qualifiers such as Ricky Evans, Niels Zonneveld and Callan Rydz.

Betting
This is the first quarter where I like the idea of betting on the winner. I’m going to leave the red section alone because I just can’t see where a clash between Michael van Gerwen and Gary Anderson. I might have thought differently if Ross Smith was in the MVG bit of that draw rather than the Anderson one but that isn’t the case. There just has to be value in the other half of the quarter though with the two seeds among the weaker in terms of form right now.
It might be that this is the section where a qualifier goes the best and given that William O’Connor has the best average of anyone in the green part of the quarter in the last couple of months he might be worth a chance to win the quarter at 125/1 and to make the quarter final at 14/1. O’Connor has been here enough times to know the crack and his run to the quarter final would be Dylan Slevin who he is 4/7 to beat, Dimitri Van den Bergh, potentially Martin Schindler who has dropped his form since his latest European Tour win and then Dave Chisnall. It isn’t the hardest route so if he can hold himself together the experienced performer could be the sleeper in the section. He is the one carrying the best numbers into the event in his immediate part of the draw which bodes well.
