The majority of the matches in the Premier League this weekend take place on Saturday on a day which could all but confirm the destination of the title this term while also clearing up a few issues at the bottom of the table.
This feels like a massive day in the campaign and as ever on a Saturday we have a couple of matches live on the TV to enjoy in the UK and then there will be all the other usual ways of keeping up to date with the other games.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (3pm unless stated – UK TV in brackets)
Manchester City v Chelsea (12.30pm – BT Sport 1)
Newcastle United v Watford
Norwich City v Everton
Wolverhampton Wanderers v Southampton
Aston Villa v Manchester United (5.30pm – Sky Main Event & Sky Premier League)

The action begins right at the top of the table where the destiny of the title could be decided when Manchester City host Chelsea. City can’t actually win the title this early in the season but they will move 13 points clear of the Londoners if they win this match. Even were Chelsea to win the match you would think they are up against it to win the title but defeat would give them next to no chance. The later TV game comes from Villa Park where Aston Villa will be out to extract immediate revenge on Manchester United for their exit in the FA Cup on Monday night. The hosts could give a debut to Philippe Coutinho which could add an extra spice to proceedings.
The 3pm action is largely all about the bottom end of the table and plenty of eyes will on be St James’ Park to see whether Newcastle United can give themselves hope of beating the drop when they face the side they are chasing to escape the bottom three in the form of Watford. The Magpies will come out of the drop zone for the first time in a while with a win here while Watford will stick a five point gap between them and the bottom three should they win. Norwich City will be interested in that result but it will only matter more to them if they can get the three points when they play host to a struggling Everton side. Wolverhampton Wanderers meet Southampton in the other match.
Betting
I’ll go with one bet across these matches although by the time 5.30 comes along I might well have talked myself into a second as I quite like Aston Villa to get something out of Manchester United. The bet I like even more than that is over 2.5 goals in the match between Newcastle United and Watford. These two sides are among the worst in the league defensively, both in what our eyes tell us as well as what the statistics would suggest.
Only Norwich City have conceded more goals than these two this season so that opens up the possibility for goals but when you add in the nature of both sides really needing a win here I think that will also offer up the potential for goals to come along. Newcastle have a new focal point to their attack with Chris Wood coming in while Watford managed to keep Emmanuel Dennis in the country despite his national team wanting him. There are goals in both these sides but there are a lot more in their own net so the two should combine for more than 2.5 goals.
