The televised action begins at Selhurst Park where Patrick Vieira and his Crystal Palace side host a Liverpool outfit who will no doubt be having a good whinge about the schedule having played in the Carabao Cup on Thursday evening. Liverpool have seen Manchester City slip up this weekend already and a win here will close the gap at the top to nine points. Chelsea will then look to move three points closer to City when they are in the second of the TV matches when they go up against their London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Two other matches take place on Sunday afternoon. Arsenal will look to get back on the horse after their disappointing exit in the Carabao Cup semi-final on Thursday evening. They host a Burnley side who might have forgotten how to play football such is the length of time it has been since they last played a Premier League match. The other match sees Leicester City hosting Brighton and Hove Albion with only the footballing gods knowing why this match is on the Sunday rather than the Saturday.
Betting
There isn’t a huge amount I like over the course of the day with teams backing up from Thursday night or being decimated by players away at the Africa Cup of Nations so I’m largely going to keep my powder dry here but I do like one in the later of the quartet of matches which sees Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur desperate for the three points in a match where the even money on both teams to score should provide us with a winning end to the weekend.
Chelsea have come right off the rails in the Premier League of late and one of the reasons for that is they have only kept one clean sheet in their last 11 matches, and that was only against a goal shy Wolves side. Tottenham have a terrible record on this ground and they won’t need reminding of that but they have scored in each of their last eight Premier League games and with Chelsea missing a few defenders and their keeper who is at the Africa Cup of Nations, that coupled with the fuel in the belly to end this ridiculous record on this ground can see Spurs finding the net in a game where both sides contribute to the scoreboard.
