Premier League 2021-22 – Wednesday 8th February Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The midweek action in the Premier League continues on Wednesday evening when another four games take place in the division on a night where we will see the champions on show and a number of lower half sides.

As with Tuesday evening, all four matches will be live on TV in the UK but once again they all clash with each other so you will need more than one device if you are to keep up with all the action throughout the night.

Wednesday’s fixtures are as follows: (7.45pm unless stated; UK TV in brackets)

Manchester City vs Brentford (BT Sport 2)

Norwich City vs Crystal Palace (BT Sport ESPN)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Southampton (BT Sport 3)

Aston Villa vs Leeds United (20.00 – BT Sport 1)

Preview

At the top of the table Manchester City will look to pile the pressure on Liverpool later in the week by moving 12 points clear at the summit when they host a Brentford side, who started the season well but are beginning to find the campaign a little tough latterly, to the Etihad Stadium. The other match with implications towards the top end sees Champions League chasing Tottenham Hotspur hosting Southampton. Spurs will move to within a point of West Ham if they can beat a Southampton side who could end the evening in the top 10 with a win.

The other end of the table is in the spotlight in the other two matches where Norwich City will be looking to come out of the bottom three when they welcome Crystal Palace to Carrow Road. The Canaries would need to win to come back out of the bottom three but Palace will have their eyes on the top half if they can win the game. The other match is the late kick off which sees Aston Villa hosting a Leeds United side who are anything but safe just yet and could be just four points from the drop if they lose and Norwich win.

Betting

I’ll go with one bet over the course of the night which is where I expect to see goals in London when Tottenham Hotspur take on Southampton. Saints had a good defensive record earlier in the season but they haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last 11 matches in the Premier League and have extra miles in their legs after needing extra time in the FA Cup at the weekend. They will have their work cut out to keep the score down against a Tottenham side who are playing really well at home under Antonio Conte.

Spurs have scored two or more in their last five home Premier League games but you would be pushing the truth to suggest they have looked impressive defensively. Brighton scored against them in the Cup at the weekend and the Londoners let in two in their last two Premier League games. The reverse meeting between these two finished 1-1 but Spurs had a perfectly good Harry Kane goal ruled out which would have opened the floodgates a bit more. I think the scoreboard gets rectified with goals in this one.
