Premier League 2022-23 – Saturday 22nd October Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

Another weekend in the Premier League begins with just four matches over the course of Saturday but it is a day where the top two from last season are on show as well as a couple of other heavyweights in the division.

There might only be four matches over the course of the day but there are still the usual two TV games which we always get on a Saturday. As ever the other two matches will have all the regular updates in the usual places.

Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK TV and kick off in brackets)

Nottingham Forest vs Liverpool (12.30 – BT Sport 1)

Everton vs Crystal Palace (15.00)

Manchester City vs Brighton and Hove Albion (15.00)

Chelsea vs Manchester United (17.30 – Sky Main Event & Sky Premier League)

Preview

The two TV matches bookend the action on the day with the first one coming from the City Ground where Nottingham Forest host Liverpool for the second time in as many seasons. Last year they met in an FA Cup tie and this season it is in the Premier League. Both teams will want to win for different reasons. The pick of the matches on the day comes in the final game to kick off as Chelsea host Manchester United in what could be a fixture which gives us a fairly indication of who might or might not be contenders for the Champions League places this term.

The two other matches take place in the traditional 3pm slot. The champions Manchester City will be looking to bounce back from their defeat at Anfield last weekend when they host a Brighton and Hove Albion side who could do with a decent performance at the very least to convince people that progress can be made under their new manager. Everton look to pick up a win in front of their own fans when Crystal Palace are the visitors to Goodison Park in the other match.

Betting

I’ll go with one bet over the course of the day and it comes at the Etihad Stadium where Brighton and Hove Albion could be getting Manchester City at the wrong time with them surely smarting from losing for the first time this season last week. It would be a bad time in that regard anyway but after a really good showing at Liverpool in their opening game under Roberto de Zerbi, things have just slipped away since then and you wonder where they are confidence wise.

Manchester City have played five home matches this season, won the lot and scored a pretty ridiculous 24 goals in them. There hasn’t been a home match where they have scored less than four this term and so the near even money on them finding the net more than twice here looks extremely big, more so when you consider that the Citizens covered this in two of the last three seasons when Brighton were under Graham Potter.
