Premier League 2022-23 – Thursday 27th April Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The midweek action in the Premier League concludes on Thursday evening when the three matches yet to take place in the latest round of games do so on what looks like a huge night in the race for the Champions League and at the bottom of the table.

As has been the case all week, all three matches will be live on the TV for us to enjoy over the course of the night, but once again we will need more than one device on the go to watch all of the action as the matches overlap each other.

Everton vs Newcastle United (19.45 – BT Sport 2)

One match which captures the attention at the top and the bottom of the table comes from Goodison Park where Everton will look to climb out of the relegation zone when they host a Newcastle United side who will be out to consolidate their Champions League spot.

Everton looked like they might put together a run of form to get themselves out of trouble when Sean Dyche arrived at the club but they have reverted to type in recent weeks and although they are harder to beat, they need to win matches and not be tough to beat from here on in. They go into this match without a win in their last five but despite that will move out of the relegation zone if they pick up the three points here. Newcastle are starting to look much more secure in the Champions League spots after their demolition job of Tottenham on Sunday but it will be interesting to see how they go about breaking down a stubborn low block here. I think Newcastle will win this but they are odds on which puts me off. I would look at the under but an early goal might open things right up as they so often do at this stage of the season so I’ll leave this one alone.

Southampton vs Bournemouth (19.45 – BT Sport 3)

The big match at the bottom of the table on Thursday evening comes from St Mary’s Stadium where rock bottom Southampton take on a Bournemouth side who are back in danger of being sucked into the relegation fight once again.

Southampton are getting towards the position where draws are no use to them and even when they picked one up against Arsenal last weekend that would have felt like a defeat having led 3-1 with a couple of minutes to play only to draw 3-3. They have to win matches and probably need to make full use of home advantage so this is a big game for them. It is a big week for Bournemouth. They play Southampton here and then Leeds at the weekend and two wins will see them playing Premier League football next season. Two defeats and the trap door will loom large. The Cherries will know that this is a golden chance to pick up a win and I expect them to attack the game as such which makes me think that the 4/5 on both teams to score is a perfectly good bet here.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United (20.15 – BT Sport 1)

The main focus on Thursday evening will come from the capital as Tottenham Hotspur offer up a response to their battering at Newcastle on Sunday when they host Manchester United in a huge match in the race for the Champions League spots.

Tottenham are drinking in the last chance saloon as far as their top four hopes are concerned but more importantly they need to show some professional pride and put in a performance worthy of a club their size after what has been a shocking couple of months in their part of North London. Manchester United had a disappointment in Spain last week but bounced back to reach the FA Cup final and can now go a long way to securing Champions League football next term with a win here. The problem for United has been their away form so if they can head to Spurs and win it would boost them for all sorts of reasons. This is one of those matches where it is hard to trust either defence. I would be staggered if there isn’t some sort of reaction from Spurs even in terms of a better performance, regardless of whether it is good enough to win or not. If I was pushed I would side with goals in this one but I would prefer a 2.5 line rather than a 3 one so I’ll sit this one out as well.
