Premier League 2022-23 – Wednesday 5th April Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The midweek action in the Premier League concludes on Wednesday evening when two more matches take place, both of which will have a big say on the chase for the top four and the race to avoid the drop.

One of the two matches will be live on the TV for us to enjoy over the course of the evening and given that the other match might well have an impact on the live game there should be plenty of updates in that too.

West Ham United vs Newcastle United (20.00 – Sky Main Event & Sky Premier League)

The TV cameras head across London on Wednesday evening for the clash between relegation threatened West Ham United and a Newcastle United side who have their sights firmly set on the top four from here on in.

Newcastle laid a marker down in that race when they turned over rivals for that position in Manchester United but they will know that doesn’t count for a lot if they don’t follow it up with another here. West Ham also picked up a needed win at the weekend. They didn’t look anything like as convincing in their win over Southampton as what Newcastle did over United but given the pressure West Ham were under I doubt David Moyes will have cared. Moyes has since seen Everton and Leeds United pick up points and will know his side could do with avoiding defeat at the very least here. I suspect there is a chance that both teams could cancel each other out here. They are both astute defensively and both lack a bit of pace in their attack to stretch teams so this could be a bit of a grind to watch unless there is an early goal to break it wide open. If that doesn’t come then this could become a game that neither want to lose rather than risk winning but I don’t really want to be on an under at this stage of a season where the stakes are pretty high. I’ll leave this one alone.

Manchester United vs Brentford (20.00)

The other match taking place on Wednesday evening does so at Old Trafford where Manchester United will look to bounce back from that defeat in Newcastle at the weekend when they host a Brentford side who are enjoying a fine campaign.

Erik Ten Hag won’t need to be reminded that his Manchester United side were torn apart in the reverse fixture and if revenge is in the air his team talk shouldn’t be too difficult. Brentford are in that wonderful position of heading to a big club with absolutely nothing to lose but also with the quality to hurt the home side if they play well and get it right. Brentford certainly have the attacking personnel to cause United plenty of problems and I think they will find the net against a defence which has succumbed to a lot of pressure recently. I’m less sure Brentford will be able to keep a clean sheet against a Brentford defence which Brighton tore to absolute shreds on Saturday. Both teams to score feels a big price at 3/4 in a match the home side have to win but the away side carries a wide array of threats.
