The Premier League returns from the international break on Saturday where we have a bumper day of action with all but two of the matches taking place up and down the country on what should be a great day of football.
Usually we are treated to two televised games on a Saturday in the UK but this time around a third is added to the card. The other five matches take place at the usual traditional slot and the updates are in the normal places for those.
Early Kick Off
We head to the south for the opening match of the day where Southampton will look to get their first win on the board when they welcome a troubled Manchester United side to St Mary’s Stadium. There is the usual doom and gloom around the visitors heading into this match but I’m not convinced they were quite as bad as people would suggest against Liverpool. They will want to bounce back here though against a side who need to prove that they are up to the level. Saints will smell blood here but whether they can feast on it will be interesting to see.
3pm Matches
It is a rare day where Manchester City and Liverpool are both in action in the traditional 3pm slot. The champions face a potentially awkward test at home to Brentford who are never the easiest to play against and who have a couple of wins against them in recent times. You would imagine Liverpool will be good things when they host Nottingham Forest at Anfield but Forest have made a positive start to the season and have little to lose there.
Two of the promoted teams are on their travels in this time slot too. Ipswich Town go in search of a first win back in the Premier League when they head to the Amex Stadium to face Brighton and Hove Albion while Leicester City look to pick up their first three points of the season when they go to the capital to take on Crystal Palace. The other match is also in London as two sides from the capital meet when Fulham welcome West Ham United to Craven Cottage.

Late Games
There are two late games this Saturday with both of them being on TV in the UK. We head to Villa Park for the first of those where it is a huge week for Aston Villa with them being back in the Champions League in midweek. They will want to start the week positively when they entertain an Everton side who have had two weeks stewing over coughing up that 2-0 lead to lose to Bournemouth before the international break. Bournemouth have the chance to build on that in the last game of the day when they welcome a Chelsea side who will probably feel there are points to be had at the Vitality Stadium.
Betting
This feels like a bit of a tricky card to me, although I quite often think that after the international break! There is one bet that I like though and that comes in the match between Bournemouth and Chelsea right at the end of the day. It is goals that I like here and although I would prefer the line to be 3 rather than 3.25, I still can’t ignore the over given how these two are playing right now and the fact both will be keen to win the game.
Bournemouth have just surrendered 18 shots to a terrible Everton side and went 2-0 down in the game. They won’t be able to field Kepa in goal here either as he is up against his parent club. Chelsea drew 1-1 with Crystal Palace last time out but they didn’t play badly. Only Liverpool have created more big chances than Chelsea this term but only Man City and Liverpool have a higher xG total than Bournemouth. The Bournemouth keeper ties the league in saves this term whoever it might be and we know it will be Mark Travers who was looking likely to leave the club throughout August here. There has to be goals in this one and even though I’d prefer to get a 3 line I’ll take over 3.25 and risk the half loss if there are only 3 goals.
