The third round of matches in the Premier League in the space of a week get underway on Saturday when half of the division are on show on another day which could have significance at both ends of the table as we head towards the halfway mark.
Although there is a shortage of games, there are still two TV matches to enjoy at either end of proceedings unless Storm Darragh gets in the way which it is threatening to do. The three other matches have updates in all the usual places.
Early Kick Off
We begin with the big match of the day where Liverpool will be looking to open up a 10 point lead at the top of the Premier League for a few hours at least when they make the short trip past Stanley Park to Goodison Park to take on Everton who will be looking to ease their fears of the drop by following up their excellent win over Wolves in midweek with another here. This will be the final Premier League Merseyside derby at Goodison Park before Everton move into their new stadium so this could be a momentous occasion.
3pm Matches
There are three matches in the traditional 3pm slot on Saturday and one of them comes from Villa Park where Aston Villa will look to follow up their midweek win over Brentford when they host a rock bottom Southampton side who are having to rebound from shipping five to Chelsea on Wednesday night. Brentford will aim to get back to winning ways at the same time when Newcastle United are the visitors to the Gtech while the other match takes place at Selhurst Park where two sides who won in midweek meet when Crystal Palace host Manchester City.

Late Game
The day ends at Old Trafford where we see the latest leg of the Manchester United saga. They have a Premier League win, draw and defeat under Ruben Amorim and they will be looking to pick up a second win under the Portuguese when Nottingham Forest are the visitors to the Theatre of Dreams. Forest have already lost one game in Manchester this week and will be out to ensure that they don’t lose another. They have the sort of threat that can cause United problems so the closer to the Saturday action could be the pick of the matches.
Betting
There isn’t a huge amount that I like in a truncated Premier League day on Saturday and I’m not really wanting to bet too much this weekend anyway with the storm going through the UK likely to affect the matches but there is a bet that I do like and it comes in the same punt that I took at Villa Park in midweek which is for the Aston Villa game against Southampton to see both teams scoring and over 2.5 goals. I think the latter part of that bet should be safe from Villa alone.
I do think Southampton score here though. To be fair, while they are hell bent on gifting goals in their own net, Saints have scored at Brentford, Bournemouth, Arsenal and Brighton this season and they have also scored twice at home to Liverpool and even in a thumping in midweek they still found the net. It is now seven matches without a clean sheet for Villa this term and they have only kept one in their 14 Premier League matches. This bet has landed in nine of the 14 Villa games this term and six Southampton games and I think it lands here as well.
