Premier League – Saturday 17th December Matches Betting Preview

The final round of Premier League matches before Christmas begin with six games in the self-dubbed ‘Best League in the World’ on Saturday. We know Chelsea will be top of the table on Christmas Day but we don’t yet know how many points they will lead by.

With Arsenal and Liverpool not in action until Sunday the leaders have the chance to open up a nine point gap at the top when they get the day underway. As ever on a Saturday there are three kick off times in total.

Early Kick Off

The day begins with a London derby at Selhurst Park as struggling Crystal Palace host the runaway leaders Chelsea. A win will take Chelsea nine points clear but a Palace win will pull them away from the immediate threat of danger at the bottom.

3pm Matches

There are four matches in the regular slot on Saturday. Middlesbrough take on Swansea at the Riverside in a battle of two sides either side of the relegation drop zone. Stoke play host to the champions Leicester while Sunderland welcome Watford to the Stadium of Light. West Ham and Hull do battle at the London Stadium.

Late Game

It all finishes at The Hawthorns this week as West Brom host Man Utd in a clash between the two sides just out of the European spots. All eyes will be on Man Utd to see if they can make it three wins in a row and finally launch something of a charge.

Betting

This isn’t a fixture list which throws up much in my eyes but there is one which takes my fancy and it comes at the Riverside where I like Middlesbrough to beat a disappointing Swansea.

Swansea have only picked up one point on the road since the opening day and that was only at Everton who have been flattering to deceive. They look gun shy when away from the Liberty Stadium and concede by the bucket load as West Brom and Spurs can testify to in recent times.

Middlesbrough are nothing special and won’t offer too much this season but they know which games are big and which aren’t and this definitely falls into the category of the former. Boro have beaten the bottom two sides at home this season and a win here will be priceless. It might not be routine, it may be nervy but at odds against I’ve got to take Middlesbrough based on what we’ve seen of Swansea on the road recently.
