It was an exciting day in the Premier League on Saturday and there are three matches to back up that excitement in the top flight on Sunday as well. Among the three matches the leaders Chelsea, title challengers Arsenal and the defending champions Leicester are all in action. All three matches are live on TV and we’ll preview them in kick off order.
Southampton vs Leicester
The champions Leicester are in real need of three points and they might well have fallen on their feet here because they head to Southampton with the Saints having lost their last four matches and suddenly looking a bit of a shambles. If that isn’t enough Southampton will surely have all their attention on the EFL Cup semi-final in midweek too.
That should open the door for Leicester to do some damage here but with the likes of Islam Slimani and Riyad Mahrez away on Africa Cup of Nations duty I’m not sure I can trust Leicester to get the job done on the road here so I’ll sit the opener out on Sunday.
Arsenal vs Burnley
Arsenal will be looking to move up to second in the table when they host Burnley at the Emirates Stadium but Burnley will be looking to upset the applecart themselves. There wasn’t a lot between the two when they met at Turf Moor earlier in the season which will encourage the visitors here.
Arsenal are giving up a two goal start on the Asian lines and although they have only dropped four points at home since the opening weekend of the season and Burnley still only have a hugely fortuitous point at Old Trafford to show for their travels this season I’m not convinced there is any value in that handicap.
In their last four away games Burnley have been to Stoke, West Ham, Tottenham and Man City and not been beaten by more than two goals so the stats suggest they could stay inside this handicap. I don’t fancy it either way though.
Chelsea vs Hull
It is fitting that Chelsea end the week given that they are on top of the table regardless of the outcome here and a win will extend their lead at the top to eight points which is starting to become significant it has to be said.
Chelsea take on a Hull side who saw Swansea overtake them on Saturday and who need some points to pull away from the drop zone as soon as they can get them. I don’t think any will come here though. I think Chelsea are too strong at the back and have too much to offer going forward to not win this game and I fancy Chelsea to win without conceding.
