Premier League – Wednesday 14th December Matches Betting Preview

The final eight matches in the midweek fixture list in the Premier League all take place on a potentially exciting evening on Wednesday with issues at the top of the table and the bottom of it under the microscope.

Tuesday saw Arsenal pass up the chance to close the gap on leaders Chelsea with the latter now having the chance to extend their lead at the top of the table. Liverpool and Man City are among the sides in pursuit looking to keep on Chelsea’s coattails.

Wednesday’s fixtures are as follows:

Middlesbrough v Liverpool

Sunderland v Chelsea

West Ham United v Burnley

Crystal Palace v Manchester United

Manchester City v Watford

Stoke City v Southampton

Tottenham Hotspur Vs Hull City

West Bromwich Albion v Swansea City

Big Matches

The TV game on Wednesday night comes from Selhurst Park as Crystal Palace host Manchester United in what is a bit of a nothing match in a way. United are going nowhere fast and while they are making hard work of it Palace are too good to go down.

Leaders Chelsea head to Sunderland while Liverpool go in the same direction for their clash with Middlesbrough. Manchester City will be hunting any slip ups when they host Watford in what looks the easier match of the three.

Best of the Rest

Swansea will be looking to climb out of the relegation zone when they head to The Hawthorns to take on West Brom. There is a mid-table battle between Stoke and Southampton at the Britannia Stadium and West Ham host Burnley at the London Stadium.

Betting

There are two bets I like on Wednesday night where hopefully we can make up for the disappointment of Arsenal losing their lead on Tuesday evening. The first bet comes at the Olympic Stadium.

West Ham got a positive result at Anfield on Sunday and what impressed me the most about it was how they defended in the second half. There were shades of last season about it and that can only bode well for them going forward as with the quality they have in forward areas you always fancy them to score.

The Hammers know this is a big week and it begins with the ideal opponents in Burnley who have been very ordinary away from home this season. I’ve repeatedly highlighted the chalk and cheese nature of them at home and away and this is a game I feel West Ham can win. January is approaching and Payet’s form is likely to improve. He can guide the Hammers to a comfortable win.

I’m also going to take goals at the Etihad Stadium. The three lowest scorers in the division – Sunderland, Middlesbrough and Southampton have all found the back of the net at the Etihad this season and without their midfield protection and their best centre back Man City look vulnerable to me so I wouldn’t be surprised if Watford score in the game.

That said Watford are a side who have shipped six at Anfield and three at West Brom in their last two matches so keeping it tight is clearly going to be an issue for them. Pep looks like a man who is starting to feel the pressure so team changes might be kept to a minimum which in turn should see the goals flow, potentially at both ends.
