There is just the one match in the SA20 competition on Sunday and we head back to Kingsmead for it as the Durban Super Giants will look to pick up a second win of the campaign when they host the Paarl Royals.
The Royals are also looking for a second win in the tournament after winning last time out so we should be in for a decent game between two sides who do not lack for firepower with the bat to say the least.
Durban Super Giants
When the Durban Super Giants allowed the Johannesburg Super Kings to wriggle off their hook in their opening game they looked like they were going to be in a bit of trouble in the early stages of the event. That was because they were coming up against the MI Cape Town team in their second match but they reminded us why sport is played out on the field rather than on paper because they came out on top in that one to boost their position heading into this game.
We saw in that second match the damage they can do with the bat. In fairness, we saw it in the first game too but they had lost control of the situation by then. They threatened to cough up a really good position against MI Cape Town and there is no doubt that their last 10 overs with the ball is an early concern in the competition. You wouldn’t want them to be batting first and then have to defend a score with that bowling.
Paarl Royals
The Paarl Royals were actually pretty well beaten by the MI Cape Town side in the first match in the tournament but to their credit they came back with a bang when they absolutely destroyed the Johannesburg Super Kings last time out. They picked up a bonus point win in that match and with their run rate superior to the MI Cape Town team as a result, the Royals know that if they win here they will head to the top of the table.
One concern for Paarl going into this match is that Tabraiz Shamsi looked to pick up an injury in that last game and he is potentially going to miss this one so a Royals side, who were light with the ball in the first place, could well be missing a gun bowler. The flip side of that is they have power right through their top six and if they get going then they won’t need to worry about who is bowling for them as the batters can chase any score down.

Key Players
Kyle Mayers played a big role in the win over MI Cape Town last time out. He was the man who clean bowled Dewald Brevis in the first over and then he batted brilliantly to get Durban ahead of the rate in the second innings.
We’ve seen in both Durban matches that their second half of their bowling innings has been terrible and David Miller could be the man to take advantage of that on his home ground. He’ll know some of these bowlers but more importantly he’ll know the pitch and the ground dimensions to go big.
Betting
We saw 20 sixes on this ground in the first match here and that was long enough ago that we should be on a fresh pitch for this one so I’m expecting the sixes to flow once again here. I think they are going to flow in a lot of matches involving the Paarl Royals because their batting looks as powerful as anything in the competition but they also look weaker with the ball and there is no getting away from that unfortunately.
There is also no getting away from the fact that the Durban Super Giants have been terrible in the second half of their bowling innings on both occasions that they have played so far. There is no shortage of quality and clean hitting in the Durban batting unit though so I’m expecting the sixes total to run up here, especially with this being a day game where the ball should go a bit further in the humid South African air. The sixes line here is 10.5 and that looks very low.
