Big Matches
This feels like a big day towards the top of the division which is where Sheffield United will want to be but in order to close in on that part of the table they will need to find a win when they make the relatively short trip to take on Hull City. They will then hope the top three slip up as the leaders Fulham prepare to host a Reading side who can’t seem to keep goals out of their own net. West Bromwich Albion start the day in second place and they head to Deepdale to take on Preston North End while AFC Bournemouth in third delve into Wales to take on Cardiff City.
Best of the Rest
Coventry City are actually riding high and they will want to maintain their lofty position in the table when they make the trip to the capital to take on Millwall. It was a Friday night to forget for Derby County with the club announcing that they are going into administration. A points deduction will follow when that is confirmed so they could do with getting three points when they welcome Bristol City to Pride Park. Nottingham Forest begin life after Chris Hughton with a trip to Huddersfield Town while Peterborough United host Birmingham City.
Betting
There are actually two bets that I like the look of on Saturday afternoon. The first of them comes from Craven Cottage where Fulham host Reading. This is a match which pits the leading scorers in the Championship against the side who have conceded the most goals so I’m expecting a home win here and one by a fair margin given the form that Aleksandar Mitrovic is in right now. Reading had a good win over Peterborough in midweek but they’ll need a heck of a lot more than that to get something out of this one. Fulham suffered a surprise defeat at Blackpool last week but I suspect that was international duty induced. Aside from that they have put three past Stoke, five past Huddersfield and four past Birmingham this season. Reading can be the latest to be overwhelmed.
I saw Birmingham City a few weeks ago and they looked very good for the level with Tahith Chong right up there with anything I’ve seen in the Championship and they have the ideal chance to bounce back from their humbling by Fulham in midweek when they head to London Road to take on a Peterborough United side who once again look a bit out of their depth. Posh have conceded nine goals in their last two outings and although they were on the road, that can’t inspire confidence. Birmingham are generally decent at the back having conceded just seven goals all season, four of which Fulham accounted for in midweek, and they possess plenty of goal punch. I think the Blues win this one.
