Big Matches
With the top two playing out a stalemate on Friday night the chasing pack have the chance to close the gap a little. That begins in the early kick off when two of the top six meet at the Ricoh Arena when sixth placed Coventry City host the team in fourth in West Bromwich Albion in the televised game. The other team in the top six who are in action on Saturday are Blackburn Rovers. They welcome local rivals Preston North End to Ewood Park. At the other end of the table Derby County go in search of a much needed win when they travel to Ashton Gate to take on Bristol City.
Best of the Rest
Barnsley and Peterborough United are the other two teams in the bottom three. The Tykes welcome fellow Yorkshire outfit Huddersfield Town to Oakwell while Peterborough make the trip to the City Ground to take on Nottingham Forest. The point deduction given to Reading sees them just four points above the drop zone and they welcome another team who aren’t far clear of trouble to the Madejski Stadium in the form of Hull City. Two sides in the top half collide at the Riverside when Middlesbrough play host to Swansea City.
Betting
After picking up an undeserved loser on Friday night I’m going to ease my way through Saturday and try to recover that ahead of Sunday and in the run up to a big Christmas in this division so I’ll go with what looks like a sure thing when Nottingham Forest play host to Peterborough United at the City Ground. Posh are terrible away from London Road, so much so that they have recruited a sports psychologist to try and sort out their woes. That psychologist will need a pay rise if Peterborough win at Forest though.
Forest actually go into this match with five draws and a defeat in their last six matches but when you look at the draws they have been away at QPR, home to Sheffield United, away to Reading, home to Luton when they played 30 minutes with 10 men and away to West Brom so there isn’t a bad result among them really. This is a Peterborough side who delivered a bit of a smash and grab at Hull back in October but have lost their other nine matches and only scored three goals in the process. Two of those come at Sheffield United so in seven of their 10 road trips Peterborough have failed to find the net. Forest haven’t been winning but they have only conceded once in four matches while Peterborough have only scored once in their last six. Even by Championship standards this should be a home win.
