Preview

The televised action on Wednesday night comes from Bramall Lane where a surging Sheffield United side who look to strengthen their top six claims when they host a Blackburn Rovers side who have just stuttered as they bid to stay relevant in the race for automatic promotion. Fulham have already seen their nearest challengers Bournemouth have their match called off this week so they will look to open up a nine point gap at the top when they host lowly Peterborough United who begin life without Darren Ferguson at Craven Cottage.

There is much to take note of in the other four matches with two members of the top five in action on the evening. Queens Park Rangers could end the night two points off the automatic promotion spots if they can win their home match against Blackpool. Huddersfield Town will be out to match them when they host Cardiff City whereas the race for the top six will be in the spotlight at the Bet365 Stadium where Stoke City will look to revive their fading hopes when they host a Luton Town side who have the most Championship points of any team in 2022 heading into this set of fixtures. The other match sees Derby County looking to give themselves further hope of beating the drop when they welcome Millwall to Pride Park.

Betting

There isn’t a whole lot which jumps out at me at the minute but it is becoming harder and harder to ignore the form of Huddersfield Town and while I would love their 13-match unbeaten run to come to an end soon so that my own team can catch them in the table, there are no immediate signs of that happening. They go into this match having won at Fulham at the weekend and are undefeated in six on their own patch.

To be fair to Cardiff City, they have shown an improvement in recent times as well but their better results still come at home. They are one of the poorer travellers in the division and a right old trek up to Yorkshire on a Wednesday night probably isn’t going to inspire them that much. Cardiff have pulled far enough clear of danger to not have anything to worry about so it is Huddersfield who will be looking for the points much more here. Cardiff have only won one of their last six on their travels, which came at Barnsley who thought they had equalised in injury time and were anything but convincing in that. With the form Huddersfield are in this looks like an opportunity for them to pick up three more huge points.
