Sky Bet Championship 2022-23 – Swansea vs Rotherham Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The Sky Bet Championship weekend concludes on Monday night when the focus will be on South Wales as Swansea City take on Rotherham United in a match which is key for both teams for very different reasons.

Swansea have no competitive pressures on them but their form is awful and they will want to turn that around before the end of the season. Rotherham are involved in the relegation picture, which they will want to pull away from here.

Where to watch

The match will be shown live and in full on the Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football channels with the build-up starting at 7.30pm and kick off coming along at 8pm.

Swansea City

Swansea begin the night 11 points off the top six and 11 points off the relegation zone so they are going nowhere fast this season. One of the reasons for that is because they have won just three of their last 17 league matches. Usually that would leave you in relegation issues but to be fair to the Swans they have drawn a number of games in that time but the longer this slump goes on the more everyone around the Swansea.com Stadium will get restless.

One of the frustrations that Swansea fans have is that their side play pretty football, have so much possession but don’t do enough with the play that they have and then that leaves them vulnerable to a team getting something at the other end and getting a result which might not be deserved. Russell Martin seems to be a broken record these days regarding his team being more ruthless in both boxes but they do need to be that.

Rotherham United

Whenever a team is promoted from League 1 to the Championship their immediate aim is to remain in the division. That is something the Millers have failed to do in each of the last few occasions they have come up so it would be a fine achievement if they managed to secure a second season of Championship football, especially when you consider that Paul Warne left in the early part of the campaign. They are on track for doing it but can’t afford a bad run of form else they will soon be looking at the trapdoor again.

Rotherham snapped a five match winless run last week when they took care of Sunderland and are now five points above the relegation zone as a result of that. They have the chance to put further distance between themselves and the bottom three with a win here, one which would move them up two spots in the table. Rotherham have only won twice on their travels all season so that record will need to improve if they are going to stay up.

Team News

Russell Martin was optimistic that Swansea City would be able to call upon midfielders Jay Fulton and Luke Cundle for this Monday night clash. One man who is not available to him is goalkeeper Steven Benda.

Rotherham United will have Sunderland loanee Bailey Wright back for this match after he was unable to play against his parent club. Jamie Lindsay is expected to be fit while Richard Wood is available. Ben Wiles remains out.

Betting

I think we are going to see some goals here. Swansea City fans are getting restless with results so they are going to have to look to put on a bit of a show here and against a side who don’t win the road very often they might have the perfect team to do that against, especially with Joel Piroe beginning to tick again. Rotherham can have mares defensively on their travels as well which should help Swansea impress, although even with that in mind I’ve no interest in backing them at strong odds on.

Rotherham have goals in them as we saw against Sunderland last week and this Swansea defence can be described as anything but watertight so the Millers will fancy their chances at getting some joy on the rare occasions they will see much of the ball. Swansea have shipped 10 goals in their last four home matches so I fancy Rotherham can contribute to the scoring and in what might be a more open game than expected with the added desire to win in front of their own fans for the home side, I fancy we’ll see over 2.5 goals here.
