Big Matches

The main TV attention on Saturday afternoon will come from Home Park where Plymouth Argyle will be looking to give themselves a shot in the arm in their bid to escape the drop when they host a West Bromwich Albion side who will have their eyes firmly on promotion under Tony Mowbray. There are two other TV games with cameras heading to the Kassam Stadium to see if Oxford United can continue their unbeaten start under Gary Rowett when they host a Bristol City side who will move level with the top six with a win. The other game sees Watford looking to turn their form around when they welcome Norwich City to Vicarage Road.

Best of the Rest

The leaders Leeds United are on show on Saturday afternoon, as indeed are the top three. The Whites have a home game to get stuck into when they host Cardiff City who will be looking to pull further away from the bottom three. Sheffield United are on their travels on Saturday when they head to Pride Park to take on a Derby County side who have dropped into the bottom three while Burnley, who bored the world to sleep on Monday night, will look to be a little more entertaining when they make the trip to Fratton Park to take on a Portsmouth side who are one spot above the drop zone. Sheffield Wednesday will be looking to make a move towards the top six when they host a Luton Town side who now find themselves second bottom and in desperate need of a win while two sides who are anything but safe meet at the MKM Stadium as Hull City host Stoke City.

Betting

There are two bets that I like in the Championship on Saturday as well with the first of those coming in the early kick off as I’m following the TV cameras to Home Park where I expect to see goals in the match between Plymouth Argyle and West Bromwich Albion. When you consider the defensive record of Plymouth, which has seen them concede 62 goals in 29 games, I was expecting a higher goal line than 2.5 here. I suspect much of that is down to the fact that West Brom have only scored 38 goals in 25 matches but most of those were under the regimented style of Carlos Corberan. It was no surprise to me that with Tony Mowbray at the helm that the Baggies looked a much better attacking force last week and I would expect to see fruits of that labour again here and with Plymouth in a position where their away form is so disastrous that they have to have a go for it in every home game they have left now I think the stars could align for a bit of a goal fest here. I’m rarely one for betting the early kick offs and certainly not the overs in them but this goal line and price feels low enough to attack.

The other bet comes at the traditional 3pm time where Hull City can see off Stoke City. Hull looked really good against Sheffield United last weekend, coming away from Bramall Lane with a 3-0 win, and since then they have added Louie Barry to their forward line to bring even more firepower their way. Technically this is a battle between two sides in relegation danger but based on what I saw last week I don’t expect Hull to be in it for too much longer. The same can’t really be said for Stoke though. They haven’t really had that bounce under Mark Robins yet and losing Tom Cannon certainly wasn’t going to help their fortunes. Stoke have now won just one of their last 15 matches and have only scored three goals in their last eight. Stoke still have a few attacking injuries to contend with and while Hull haven’t fully found the recipe for winning at home, their last three home games were against Middlesbrough, Leeds and QPR so we can forgive them that. I expect them to win here.
