The midweek round of matches in the Sky Bet Championship draws to a close on Wednesday evening when seven fixtures are played on what is shaping up to be a big night in the race for promotion and battle to beat the drop.
The good thing is that as ever with midweek matches this season, if you have a bet on one of them they are all available to watch on TV in the UK if you are not going to a game so there is no reason not to get stuck in here.
Wednesday’s matches are as follows: (7.45pm & Sky Sports+ unless stated)
Bristol City vs Stoke City
Burnley vs Hull City
Plymouth Argyle vs Millwall
Sunderland vs Luton Town
Swansea City vs Sheffield Wednesday
Sheffield United vs Middlesbrough (8pm – Sky Main Event & Sky Football)
West Bromwich Albion vs Blackburn Rovers (8pm – Sky Sports+)

The main TV cameras head to Bramall Lane on Wednesday evening to see if Sheffield United can keep up in the race for automatic promotion. They host dangerous challengers Middlesbrough who are capable of giving anyone a game this season. Burnley are also involved in that promotion battle and they have a home game against a revived Hull City to navigate. The other team in the top four on show on Wednesday are Sunderland. They host Luton Town at the Stadium of Light in a match where both sides will be eager for three points for different reasons.
The other big match on the evening comes from the Hawthorns where the teams currently in fifth and sixth meet when West Bromwich Albion host Blackburn Rovers with the former managed by the ex-Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray and the latter now without a manager after John Eustace departed for Derby County. Plymouth Argyle will look to give their survival hopes a boost when they host Millwall while Swansea City will look to build on their weekend win when they entertain Sheffield Wednesday and Bristol City will look to get back to winning ways when Stoke City are the visitors to Ashton Gate.
Betting
Two bets look fairly obvious to me on Wednesday evening with the first of them coming at the Stadium of Light where Sunderland entertain Luton Town. This is a match you would expect Sunderland to win but you would have expected them to beat Watford here at the weekend and they fluffed their lines so the much better bet could be the 11/10 on both teams to score. This bet has landed in the last four meetings between the two at the Stadium of Light and it also cashed in the reverse fixture at Kenilworth Road too. Sunderland go into the match having conceded twice in their last three matches and have only kept one clean sheet in their last seven on home soil. Luton are a work in progress under Matt Bloomfield but they have scored in both away games under their new boss and he signed a raft of attacking players late on in the window. He has also had 11 days to work with his players since their last match so I would expect Luton to score here but I’d never back them to keep a clean sheet at the minute. Both teams to score is therefore the play.
I fancied West Bromwich Albion to get the better of Blackburn Rovers before all of the developments with Rovers boss John Eustace came about and I think it makes extra sense to take the Baggies now. They have won both of their home matches under Tony Mowbray and although they needed the latest of late winners at the weekend they were good for their win over Sheffield Wednesday. Blackburn have hit the skids in recent times, especially away from home, and the saga with Eustace isn’t going to help here you wouldn’t think. Blackburn have lost four of their last five on their travels, all to teams below them in the table, and I just think that a rejuvenated West Brom side will have too much for a fairly limited in attack Blackburn outfit.
