The bulk of the fixtures in Skybet League 2 take place on Saturday as the remaining 11 matches from this round of games get played out with the race for promotion and to avoid relegation coming under the spotlight once again.
Even though the leaders played on Friday night we have plenty of crucial matches on show which could go a long way to deciding a few things this season.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows:
Carlisle United v Blackpool
Colchester United v Barnet
Crewe Alexandra v Grimsby Town
Luton Town v Crawley Town
Mansfield Town v Hartlepool United
Morecambe v Cambridge United
Notts County v Cheltenham Town
Plymouth Argyle v Exeter City
Portsmouth v Accrington Stanley
Stevenage v Wycombe Wanderers
Yeovil Town v Leyton Orient
Big Matches
There is no doubt which match is the biggest of the day. It is the Devon derby down at Home Park as second placed Plymouth host a surging Exeter who head to their rivals in fourth place but who are hunting down third placed Carlisle fast.
The aforementioned Carlisle play host to Blackpool in another big match while fifth placed Luton will be looking to get right back among the automatic playoff picture when they entertain Crawley at Kenilworth Road.
Best of the Rest
Wycombe head to Stevenage looking to keep up their promotion charge after a couple of cup disappointments in the last two weeks while Portsmouth face a must win game at home to Accrington if they are to maintain automatic promotion hopes. Mansfield will look to force their way into the playoffs when they host Hartlepool. At the other end of the table it is a big afternoon for Notts County and Cheltenham when they meet at Meadow Lane.
Betting
With squads still settling down and the cold snap running through the country which could affect some matches I’m keeping bets to a minimum on Saturday. We’ve got another fixture list in midweek so the opportunities keep on coming which helps keep things simple.
The bet I like is for Wycombe to do something at Stevenage. The distractions are over now for Wycombe and they will be expected to crack on and deliver the goods in the league and I think they can do that at Stevenage.
To be fair to Stevenage they have won back to back matches although they haven’t always convinced in either. I saw for myself a few weeks ago just how awkward Wycombe are to play against but we’ve also seen in their wins over Portsmouth and the scare they gave Tottenham that they can rise to the big occasion.
This isn’t one of them necessarily but it is a big game in its own right for Wycombe and I fancy them to win it against a Stevenage side who have lost eight out of 14 at home.
