It is another Saturday which means another full set of fixtures in EFL League 2. The sides in action will be eyeing up a midweek off, some for the first time this season, but there are three valuable points up before that luxury comes along.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows:
Carlisle v Accrington
Colchester v Exeter
Crewe v Doncaster
Luton v Wycombe
Mansfield v Cambridge
Morecambe v Leyton Orient
Newport v Barnet
Notts County v Grimsby
Plymouth v Cheltenham
Portsmouth v Crawley
Stevenage v Hartlepool
Yeovil v Blackpool
Big Matches
The leaders Morecambe entertain Leyton Orient in one of the higher profiled matches of the day while second placed Luton host Wycombe in an intriguing battle. Doncaster, Colchester and Mansfield are all level on points with Luton in second and they take on Crewe, Exeter and Cambridge respectively.
Best of the Rest
Portsmouth host a Crawley side who have begun the season very well while Carlisle entertain Accrington who have struggled a bit so far. Blackpool head to Yeovil while Stevenage entertain Hartlepool. Newport face Barnet and Notts County go up against Grimsby. Plymouth and Cheltenham meet at Home Park.
Betting
I’m going to go with a couple of bets on this card. I’m not going too mad with the sides nearing breaking point after the heavy workload so far and it will be good to not have to second guess fitness issues next week I must say. Both bets are on home sides I like the look of.
The first of those is on Notts County. It took County a couple of matches to work things out this season but now that they have I’m expecting them to kick on and challenge for promotion much as I anticipated before a ball was kicked. They have now won their last three matches in all competitions and so they should be buzzing now.
Grimsby picked up a 5-2 win over Stevenage last week but Stevenage are nothing special so I would need to see a little more from them before I’m ready to go with them at this level. Grimsby’s squad still isn’t the biggest and I’m not convinced they are going to get too much on the road all season. I don’t see them getting anything here. Notts County with the draw cover looks a great bet.
I watched Cambridge with my own eyes last week and I couldn’t believe the lack of confidence they displayed. A more confident side would have taken the three really good chances they had and gone on and won the match but those chances went by without being converted and as soon as they went behind their heads went down and they never looked like getting back into it.
They now head to Mansfield which is never an easy place to go with the style that they use and the last thing Cambridge need is to be in a physical battle and I have to say I fear for them again if they fall behind. Mansfield have started the season well and while I’m not convinced that will last I think their form at the One Call can see them over the line in this one.
