Another busy week in League Two ends with all 24 sides back in action again on Saturday as the league heads towards a third of its completion.
After fixtures last Saturday and in midweek there could be some tired squads with tired legs and minds in action in this set of matches which is far from ideal.
The fixtures on Saturday are as follows:
Accrington v Dag & Red
Bristol Rovers v Newport
Exeter v Notts County
Hartlepool v Crawley
Luton v Plymouth
Morecambe v Leyton Orient
Northampton v Stevenage
Oxford Utd v Barnet
Portsmouth v Mansfield
Wycombe v Carlisle
Yeovil v Cambridge
York v Wimbledon
After a couple of tricky looking cards this one doesn’t look too bad on the face of it. As always after midweek games it is probably wise to swerve anything too short but there are some nice prices to get stuck into.
I nearly took Oxford to beat Barnet but the home side don’t score many as a rule and after a long week they might just be content with winning rather than pushing the boat out so I will tentatively leave that alone.
I was looking to take on Accrington with all their injuries but sadly they play a Dagenham side who aren’t much cop and who have injuries of their own. I would have taken Hartlepool but they’re another side who are being hurt by injuries at the minute so they soon became an easy swerve.
Both matches between Luton and Plymouth last season were tight with not many chances in either game and I’m expecting similar when they meet at Kenilworth Road on Saturday.
Plymouth head north top of the table but not looking as convincing as you would expect league leaders. They will be without their star man Rueben Reid too which won’t help their cause and I expect them to sit in and catch Luton on the break.
Luton boss John Still has been quite vocal about the goals his side are conceding so I’m guessing there will be a bigger emphasis on keeping a clean sheet. Luton have struggled going forward at home in recent weeks too which isn’t ideal and Plymouth are notoriously tough to break down so I’m not expecting a classic here.
You can get 5/6 on under 2.5 goals in this match and given the way it is likely to pan out that looks a good bet. Plymouth’s last four have been under 2.5 as have Luton’s last four home matches. A tight match is highly likely there.
Moving further north in form Morecambe take on out of form Leyton Orient and are amazingly a huge price both to win the game and to avoid defeat. To my eyes the home side are too big. I saw Leyton Orient at first hand on Tuesday and for the second time this season I didn’t think much to them.
Morecambe are nothing special I grant you but they regularly raise their game when the big names come to Town and I expect them to give Orient problems now they are full of confidence. At just under evens I’ll take the home side on the +0.5 asian line.
Finally I’m going to take on a Wycombe side who have hit a blip. They have lost their last three matches and Gareth Ainsworth’s small squad is just starting to be tested. It doesn’t help that he forced himself to leave Aaron Pierre out in midweek after the defender was late for a team meeting although he is likely to return here.
Carlisle have been going along alright recently although their defeat in midweek will have annoyed them. That might add some fire to the belly though which would do them no harm. Keith Curle’s men score plenty of goals and a couple here could well be enough to get the win but I’ll play safe and take them to get any kind of result given the tasty odds on the +0.5 asian line.
