All 24 sides in League Two are back in action on Saturday as the end of a busy week draws near. Nearly all of the sides have played twice in the last seven days so tired squads will be travelling the country for a third game in quick succession.
The fixtures for Saturday are as follows:
Barnet v Mansfield
Cambridge v Notts County
Carlisle v Crawley
Dag & Red v Plymouth
Exeter v Bristol Rovers
Hartlepool v Oxford Utd
Leyton Orient v Wimbledon
Newport v Luton
Northampton v Yeovil
Stevenage v Morecambe
Wycombe v Portsmouth
York v Accrington
I think by the sheer nature of the league this season we should expect some surprising results here but even more so after a busy week so I’m not looking to get too involved on anything short.
On the face of it, it would be a major surprise if Yeovil get anything at Northampton but it has been an emotional week at Sixfields and there is often a come down when the relief of safety off the field is achieved and it is this kind of match it usually arrives in.
Oxford are the other short price in the division this weekend. I must admit I expect them to win at Hartlepool but because I’m a little late writing this preview I have missed the acceptable prices and I can’t tip them up at the prices available. They are good accumulator material though.
Accrington are also odds on to win away at York and while they should be favourites they’re nothing like a side I can be taking at odds on even with talents like Josh Windass at their disposal. Plymouth are even money at Dagenham but I’m not convinced the visitors are as good as their hype and a short price doesn’t interest me there either.
There are a couple of reasonably priced home teams who do catch my eye though and I’m going to side with them here. The first is a Carlisle side that I saw with my own eyes come back from 3-1 down at Luton in midweek.
Going into that match I knew that Carlisle throw the kitchen sink at things and just a quick look at their results highlight that but to be able to play like they were able to when 3-1 down to a rampant looking Luton side at the time says a lot about their character.
They host a Crawley side who I’ve never rated and having seen them twice in the last month I still don’t rate so this looks like a good spot for Carlisle to celebrate the new contract for Keith Curle with a win.
I was wondering how long it would take for Stevenage to make use of Teddy Sheringham’s name to go knocking at the big clubs for loan signings and the answer is not long. In the last few weeks some much needed quality, much higher level quality, has come in the door and the signs are that it is starting to have an impact on their results.
They are unbeaten in their last four matches and showing good bottle when they are under pressure. With the extra quality coming into their ranks they can turn the draws into tight wins and the tight wins into bigger wins.
They will hope to secure a bigger win against Morecambe on Saturday and this is a good chance for them to do that. Morecambe have only won one of their last seven matches in all competitions and their manager found himself apologising to the fans for the capitulation to Dagenham in the cup recently so their confidence has to be low.
One side are on the upturn here and the other looks to be on the slide so I’m going to take the team with the positive confidence especially as we can get them on a juicy draw no bet line.
