The 24 sides in League Two all hit double figures for matches played in the campaign this season on Tuesday night when another full round of fixtures take place up and down the country. There are some ridiculous journeys combined with some more local games in a big night of football.
Just three points separate the top five but below that just five points split sixth place and the side in 20th so with the table so tightly bunched every match in this round is significant.
Fixtures are as follows:
Accrington v Yeovil
Wimbledon v Northampton
Dag & Red v Notts County
Hartlepool v Bristol Rovers
Leyton Orient v Carlisle
Morecambe v Luton
Newport v Crawley
Plymouth v Barnet
Portsmouth v Exeter
Stevenage v Mansfield
Wycombe v Cambridge
York v Oxford Utd
Clearly the likes of Bristol Rovers, Luton, Carlisle and Yeovil have drawn short straws going into this set of matches with ridiculously long journeys for a Tuesday night with the lack of resources most clubs at this level have.
In theory a case could be made for taking all of them on but while Accrington are going well the day they are value at odds on is still yet to arrive and with Hartlepool stuttering at the minute I’m reluctant to take them too.
Morecambe don’t have the biggest squad and that could hold them back against a rejuvenated Luton side who have a strong enough squad to make plenty of changes and not be weakened and with no win in five in all competitions I see little value in Leyton Orient.
Of the more local matches Wycombe should beat Cambridge but they are much better on the road than at home which is an issue while Stevenage and Mansfield looks tricky to call. Portsmouth and Exeter are two of the better sides in the division while Newport and Crawley are two of the worst. There’s no need to get involved in either match.
In fact all things considered there is only one match which interests me in this fixture list. I’m not a huge midweek bettor at the best of times and that mantra is going to remain intact this week but I can’t ignore Plymouth at home to Barnet.
Plymouth are in good nick at the minute with five wins and two draws in their last eight matches in all competitions and a win here could see them go top of the table. They dominated their draw at Mansfield on Saturday but I don’t think a stalemate is the worst result in that game.
Credit where it is due for Barnet they have won their last two matches but Stevenage and Dagenham at home are markedly different to Plymouth away and I sense they’ll be found out here. Barnet have played four away games this season in the league and have lost the lot and they also lost at Yeovil in the JPT so they’re not travelling well which isn’t going to help them here.
Plymouth are one of the better sides in this division and have started the season that way and after a game on the road they can enjoy life back in comfortable surroundings and pick up another three points here.
Back Plymouth to beat Barnet for a 4/10 stake at 1.93 with BetVictor
