Super Bowl LIX – Kansas City Chiefs @ Philadelphia Eagles Tips and Betting Preview

History could be made on Sunday evening when the Kansas City Chiefs go in search of a third successive Super Bowl crown when they take on the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans.

The Chiefs have won the last two Super Bowls and beat the Eagles in the first of those so Philadelphia will be out to stop the three-peat from happening and extracting their own revenge. This one is perfectly setup.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles have improved massively the longer the season has gone on. I don’t think it is a surprise that they have come into their own the longer it has gone on when you consider that they have the best running back in the league over the course of the campaign and a defence which is more than capable of making the big plays that is needed to win these big matches. We saw that in all three playoff matches so far.

The beauty for the Eagles heading into this Super Bowl is that the narrative around Saquon Barkley and the Philadelphia defence could mean that a little too much shade is placed on the passing game where the NFC champions are more than competent if needed. The Eagles have everything required to win this Super Bowl but they will need to hold their nerve in the tight moments and this match does look like it could be very tight.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs haven’t been quite as dominant as they have been in the past this season but as ever with this side, when the business end of proceedings come along they know exactly how to get things done. There were judges who thought they might come up short against the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship match but they were put in their place to set up this shot at history as the Chiefs look to be the first team to win three successive Super Bowl matches.

If that is to happen then you would think the Chiefs defence will need to come up with the goods. That isn’t just because they play a strong offense here but also because their own offense is still not firing completely on all cylinders after a raft of mid-season injuries. The one thing we do know about this Kansas City side is that they will have the perfect game plan to go into the match with and more often than not they execute such a plan as designed.

Betting

I find it hard to go against the Kansas City Chiefs here. They just know how to get the job done on the big stage and I would back Patrick Mahomes in a game winning drive situation slightly more than I would Jalen Hurts. That isn’t to say I don’t think Hurts will have a good game but I just don’t see anyway this is a blowout unless certain elements of the Eagles side who weren’t involved in the Super Bowl two years ago get caught up in the occasion.

I don’t see that being an issue for the Kansas City Chiefs. The only major weapon they have who is playing in a first Super Bowl or high profile match like it is Xavier Worthy and he has shown nothing to suggest that the occasion is going to worry him. If there is a side who are going to be able to shut down or slow down Saquon Barkley then it is the Chiefs and they will force Hurts to win the game with his arm and I’m not sure I’d back him in a passing game against Mahomes. I’m with the Chiefs here.
