Super League XXII – Castleford Tigers vs Wigan Warriors Betting Preview

There is one match in the Super League on Saturday night and it comes from The Jungle as the early pacesetters Castleford Tigers take on the champions Wigan Warriors for the second time this season.

The two sides met at the DW Stadium a few weeks ago when the Tigers ran out 27-10 but things have changed a bit since then and now it is Wigan with the momentum going into this one.

Castleford Tigers

It was always going to come but the Castleford Tigers have hit a rough trot of form at the minute. They have now lost their last two matches although both of them were on the road and to be fair to them they lost to established sides in St Helens and Hull FC although not being able to beat a Hull side who had a man less for an hour is concerning.

Earlier in the season and indeed in all of their home matches they have been putting up points for fun but that output has just stowed in recent weeks and they will be looking to put that right. They have begun to leak a few more points in recent matches too which is something they will want to end too.

Wigan Warriors

Despite all their injury problems this season the champions Wigan Warriors head into this match off the back of four wins in a row and when you consider the hectic Easter period that is by no means a normal run of form. That is something they should be very proud of and which should give them a lot of confidence here.

Wigan are still one of the best sides in the league defensively but their attacking power has been there to see this season whether it has been their first choice players or second team or academy players who have come in for injuries. Wigan know how to peak in the big matches and it will be interesting to see if they do that here.

Team News

Despite back to back defeats Castleford haven’t panicked. They have made just one change to their squad which is to bring Matt Cook in for Andy Lynch.

Wigan will have Joel Tomkins back from injury and Anthony Gelling back from suspension for this match. Thomas Leuluai will be out for a couple of months though.

Betting

If you had said Castleford Tigers would be such a short favourite at the beginning of the season you would have been laughed at but that is a mark of how well they have played this season. This is a real acid test for their playoff and Grand Final credentials though.

Wigan Warriors love the big matches and the intensity they produce in them makes them a champion side. I can understand why they are the outsiders in this match but I’m not sure Wigan should be giving up eight points to anyone right now least of all a side who have lost their last two matches. Castleford might win but I’ll take Wigan to stay within eight.
