Big Bash League 2020-21 – Sydney Sixers vs Adelaide Strikers Tips and Betting Preview

The Big Bash League continues on Sunday with a match which was meant to be a day game when the Sydney Sixers take on the Adelaide Strikers at the Blundstone Arena in Hobart but because the Test match finished early it has been flexed back into the usual night slot.

That adds a different dynamic to the contest but shouldn’t detract from the competitiveness of it, particularly with both teams going into the match off the back of wins last time out. That means whoever wins this will be in a very good position.

Sydney Sixers

The Sydney Sixers have played two matches this season and have a win and a defeat on their record. They lost their first match against the Hobart Hurricanes when they looked to be cruising at one stage but they got over the disappointment of that loss to absolutely annihilate the Melbourne Renegades in their latest match and if they can repeat that performance then the defending champions are going to be hard to beat.

The question mark over the Sydney Sixers going into their title defence was whether they would be able to put enough runs on the board to be competitive. At no point in their history has their bowling attack been an issue and that certainly is the case this season, as we saw in their previous match when they shot the Renegades out for just 60 inside 11 overs. Clearly that won’t happen every game but it shows the potential they have.

Adelaide Strikers

It has been a strange start to the season for the Adelaide Strikers because they have played two matches so far and played the same team in both of them. They lost their opening game to the Hobart Hurricanes before getting their revenge on the same opponents in the second match. We can allow them their first defeat because they needed to shed the rust and that showed with the excellent display they put on in the second game.

That was a clinical performance where they were excellent with the ball and brutal with the bat. It was a standout display and if they offer up the same showing with the willow then they are also going to take some beating because their bowling attack also stands up to most in this competition. If there is a slight concern aside of the batting for the Strikers there is an element of their attack which can go round the park as we saw in their opener.

Team News

The Sydney Sixers have another of their overseas contingent available to them here with Jason Holder having joined up with the camp. They are still without Sean Abbott and Moises Henriques though as they remain with the Australia squad.

Adelaide Strikers have added Harry Conway and Liam Scott to their squad for this match but unless they decide to start Conway you’ve got to think they will name an unchanged side. They are without Travis Head who is away with Australia.

Betting

You can make a case for both the sides in this match but I like the Sydney Sixers. They produced an amazing display in their previous match and with Jason Holder coming in now they are only going to get stronger. While the Adelaide Strikers were impressive in their previous match I do think the toss played a part in that so I would need to see them produce the goods once again just to prove that wasn’t a fluke outcome.

The Sixers are the defending champions so their quality is known. If I did have a concern over them then it came in the form of their batting but adding Holder to their ranks really helps with that. I think they marginally edge the batting now and there isn’t a whole lot between the two sides in terms of the bowling. I also think the Sixers are the smarter team in terms of the new rules and things so I’m going with them as outsiders here.
