Super League XXII – Friday 1st September Matches Betting Preview

Once again the latest round of Super 8s matches in the Super League campaign concludes with three fixtures on Friday and with the leaders on show as well as arguably the fiercest derby in the sport in this country we should be in for a cracking night of rugby.

That derby is the St Helens vs Wigan clash which unsurprisingly is on TV with the other two matches able to be kept up to date with in the usual places. We’ll kick the preview off with the TV game.

St Helens vs Wigan Warriors

Matches between these two do not need any profile adding to it. They have that all on their own but this one has got more attention on it as it is the return to rugby league of Ben Barba after he has served his drugs ban.

That should fire St Helens into life after back to back defeats prior to the Challenge Cup break but in truth they should not need any help getting up for this one. Wigan shouldn’t need any assistance in that regard either but their bodies may be a little heavy legged during this match with them not having the luxury of the week off. Worse still they had to get over the disappointment of losing the cup final.

I like St Helens here. I think the longer the match goes the more jaded Wigan will get. We saw that with Hull FC on Thursday night and we should see it again here. I’ll take the home side to cover a try in this one.

Huddersfield Giants vs Castleford Tigers

This Yorkshire derby sees a Huddersfield side for whom the season is probably all over taking on a Castleford side who are waiting for the next four weeks to end before they play competitive rugby again.

I mentioned before the Challenge Cup break that matches involving the Castleford Tigers were not going to be easy to bet on anymore after their successful campaign would lead to them resting and rotating their squad. If Huddersfield were in form or extremely competent I might have considered them but it is tough to part with cash on this one.

Salford Red Devils vs Wakefield Trinity

Two sides who are hoping to finish the season well and claim that fourth spot in the play-offs meet at the AJ Bell Stadium when the Salford Red Devils host the Wakefield Trinity in a huge clash for both sides.

Salford go into this match in wretched form so there is no doubt the break for the cup final came at a perfect time for them. They will hope to have used that to muster up the energy for a big effort to end the season. Wakefield were in better form going into the break but have come out of it with a couple of injuries which is a concern so this feels like a match best left alone to me too.

Tips
