The latest round of Super League matches continues on Friday night with two fixtures and both could have significant implications on the remainder of the season. We have one match in front of the TV cameras and another one that isn’t. We’ll begin with the live game.

Salford Red Devils vs Hull FC
Both these sides went against their recent form last weekend as Salford Red Devils lost at home to Wakefield Trinity ending a good winning run while Hull FC got back to winning ways when beating Wigan Warriors.
I think we largely have to put those results to one side because the whole round of matches was so poor in quality and diluted in aggression because of the mental schedule that events were of a freaky nature rather than the norm.
One thing we can take from Hull’s win is that while they were potent around the try line Wigan imploded both from a defensive point of view and a discipline one. I don’t see this Salford side doing that. If anything their defeat last week, while largely written off, will focus the minds and avoid overconfidence.
Salford have already been to Hull FC this season when the Black and Whites were in better touch and annihilated them and while the margin of victory might not be as large here I do expect them to cover a converted try.
St Helens vs Widnes Vikings
Two sides not where they would want to be in the Super League table meet at the Totally Wicked Stadium when St Helens host Widnes. Widnes Vikings dropped back to the foot of the table on Thursday night when the Leigh Centurions saw off Wigan while St Helens sit in seventh place and really need to start winning.
St Helens had the advantage of not playing in one of the three fixtures organised in that chaotic spell but that still didn’t stop them losing to a largely reserve side from Castleford Tigers. Widnes have won their last two matches and already have a win over St Helens this season but I fancy the Saints to come through here.
That said they are being asked to cover 14pts which I wouldn’t be totally certain about but if taking Widnes I don’t think there would be much leeway and with Rhys Hansbury not playing for the Vikings I’m reluctant to back them. I’ll sit this one out.
