Super League XXII – Saturday 19th August Matches Betting Preview

The Super League qualifiers continue on Saturday with two more matches, both of which are live on Sky for those of us in the UK, as four sides look to move closer to sealing a spot in the elite division for next season.

After these matches the four sides will have just four more matches remaining to pick up the necessary points to regain or retain Super League status so both these fixtures carry plenty of significance.

Warrington Wolves vs Halifax

Two wins from two matches have the Warrington Wolves in an excellent position to make it back in with the elite of the Super League next season and a win here will put them on the edge of a return to the top flight. Halifax are the only side in the competition without a point thus far and that needs to change soon if they are to reach the Super League again.

Warrington are being asked to give up a substantial amount in this match, which is understandable although Halifax have shown in their two matches thus far that they can score points. The question will be whether they can restrict Warrington enough to stay within the total. My gut instinct is that they will but it isn’t a strong enough one to act upon so I will sit this one out.

Catalans Dragons vs Leigh Centurions

The pick of the two matches on Saturday afternoon comes from France as the Catalans Dragons host the Leigh Centurions in a battle of two sides who are looking to retain their Super League status.

It hasn’t gone according to plan for the Dragons so far in this qualifiers campaign. They had to battle like crazy to edge out the London Broncos and then got battered by the Warrington Wolves last week. The Centurions were easy winners in the first week of this new league but were upstaged by Hull KR last week which was not helpful to them.

I just can’t bring myself to back the Catalans Dragons. They keep shooting themselves in the foot with the amount of penalties they give away. They probably should still win this match but a 12pt start is a few too many for Leigh to receive in my eyes.
