There are three remaining matches in the latest round of Super League games with them all coming on a busy Saturday afternoon. The opening two nights of the round have seen matters at the top of the table under the spotlight but now things lower down the ladder come into the spotlight. One match is on TV on Saturday and two aren’t. We’ll begin the preview with the live game even though it is the last one to kick off.
Catalans Dragons vs Wakefield Trinity Wildcats
The French outfit began the season very strongly but things have faltered badly for them in recent weeks and you just wonder what their state of mind will be heading into this one. They were thrashed at Castleford last week.
Wakefield in contrast have been competitive for much of the season and wins against St Helens and Leigh were well fought and probably deserved on the balance of play so they’ll be heading to France with their tails up at the very least.
I wouldn’t be totally surprised if Wakefield Trinity Wildcats win this match although I do fancy Catalans to edge it but the 12pt start the Wakefield get just looks too big. They are defending better and have points in them and they can right that start right to the end.
Warrington Wolves vs Hull FC
The good lord only knows what is happening at Warrington at the minute but whatever it is it clearly isn’t good. Hull FC are ticking along nicely in contrast and they will be up for beating a Warrington side who have been a thorn in their side for a while.
Not only have Warrington not won a match this season but they appear to be getting further away from it too. In recent weeks the little attack they have put up has faded rapidly and their defence has been exposed. Questions are inevitably being asked about the coach which is a sign of pressure.
Hull FC have no such worries. It is a blow for them that they are missing Danny Houghton in this match but the rest of the side looks strong and Albert Kelly is a real livewire who could be the difference here. At even money Hull FC just have to be the call.
Leigh Centurions vs Widnes Vikings
The two sides expected to struggle this season meet at the Leigh Sports Village. Widnes Vikings are living up to that tag whereas Leigh Centurions are surprising many with their start to the campaign.
Leigh look worthy favourites to me here but the way they crumbled at Wakefield last week is a concern especially when they are being asked to cover a double figure handicap. I think Leigh will win. They should cover the handicap but something is telling me this is a trappy game so I’ll sit it out.
