There is a big day in the Super League on Saturday with one club guaranteeing their status for next season and another still hoping to burgle their way into the semi-finals next week.
In all we have three matches, two of which are live on TV in the UK, two from the qualifiers and one from the Super 8s. Although the non-televised match kicks off first we’ll go through the TV matches initially and save that for last.

Wakefield Trinity vs Wigan Warriors
This match was saved until last in the Super 8s because there was a chance going into the weekend that Wigan could pip either Hull FC or St Helens to a semi-final spot but with both those clubs winning it means the only way Wigan can progress now is to win by 91pts or more.
Clearly that isn’t going to happen so this has become a dead rubber although Wakefield Trinity might not see it that way. They have had a wonderful season and if they could cap it off with a win against a side like Wigan Warriors that would be a fitting way to end the campaign. It remains to be seen what motivation Wigan have but whatever it is you would think it would be low. Wakefield look value to end the campaign with a victory.
Catalans Dragons vs Widnes Vikings
The margin of victory that Leigh Centurions racked up last week means that they will host the losers of this match in the Million Pound Match next week. Before then though the Catalans Dragons will host the Widnes Vikings knowing full well that the winner of the match will have their Super League status secured without needing to go to the wire next week.
Given how poor Catalans are on the road you would think they might have to get it done this week but they look like a side who are going to split up next season which is very much a concern. Widnes are missing one or two for this match which is not ideal but the one thing we know about the Vikings is that they have a spirit and a togetherness and that might just be enough to get them over the line.
Warrington Wolves vs Hull KR
Two sides who will be battling it out in the Super League next season clash in the opening match of the day, the only match not to be televised, when the Warrington Wolves host Hull KR.
Both teams secured their Super League status for next year a couple of weeks ago and will end their season here. I suspect the match will be bigger for the Warrington Wolves than Rovers purely because it is Tony Smith’s last game in charge and he will want to go out on a high but that isn’t enough for me to take them to cover an 18pt cap. I’ll sit this one out.
