Super League XXII – Saturday 9th September Matches Betting Preview

The latest round of matches in the Super 8s and three from the qualifiers take place in the Super League on a busy Saturday afternoon of action. Those of us who have not have enough of a rugby league fix this weekend yet have two more matches on TV to enjoy. They are the last two to kick off but we’ll go through the fixtures in starting order.

Salford Red Devils vs Huddersfield Giants

Two sides who are unlikely to be anywhere near the semi-finals this season meet in a match which will give one of them a little longer inside the last chance saloon than the other.

Salford’s form has completely fallen away since they were knocked out of the Challenge Cup and Huddersfield Giants are now odds on favourite to win this one. I think they will win and they are probably justified at that price but it isn’t for me in what is a nothing game.

Warrington Wolves vs Leigh Centurions

The Warrington Wolves’ Super League status was under threat when they began the qualifiers but they will be guaranteed a return to the top flight should they see off the Leigh Centurions on Saturday afternoon.

If Leigh want to avoid going anywhere near the Million Pound Match this season then this is a match they simply have to win. That said with the pressure on them I’m not convinced it will happen. I have to admit I am tempted by the Centurions with a big start here but I’m worried if Warrington lead early they will secure their Super League status by really enjoying themselves.

Hull KR vs Widnes Vikings

The first of the two televised matches sees second placed in the qualifiers table in Hull KR taking on third placed Widnes Vikings. Like Warrington before them, Hull KR will be a Super League club again with a win here and after the heartache they suffered in the Million Pound Match they will be despite to avoid a return to there.

Widnes Vikings need to win this match to stave off the chasing pack in this tightly packed table but I’m not convinced they are going to win here. Widnes will be without Rhys Hansbury among others for this match and I believe that is a big blow. Hull KR have not always been convincing in this qualifiers section but they have been winning. I fancy they will win here too.

Catalans Dragons vs Featherstone Rovers

The final match of the day sees the Catalans Dragons taking on the Featherstone Rovers. The Dragons will make their position look much better in the table with a win here while Featherstone can plan for next season in the Championship if they lose here.

I would be surprised if the Dragons don’t win this match but there haven’t been many complete and utter blowouts in this section of the competition so I’m less sure they will cover 28pts especially when purely winning is the sole aim. I’ll sit this one out.
