The penultimate round of Super League matches prior to the split concludes on Sunday when the Catalans Dragons head to the Totally Wicked Stadium to take on a St Helens side who are heading towards the last chance saloon in their bid to make the top four.
We now know the Catalans Dragons will be playing in the qualifiers once the split has taken place but they will want to go there in confident mood so this will be a big match for them in that regard.
St Helens
This has been one of the most inconsistent seasons St Helens have had in Super League but amazingly with everyone beating everyone else with the exception of the Castleford Tigers there is still a spot for the Saints in the top four, if they can find some consistency between now and the end of the season.
It is not at home where the problems have been for St Helens. By and large they have been good in their own surroundings but away from home they have been terrible and if they are to make it to Old Trafford then they will need to improve that but for now it is all about winning this and moving to within three points of the top four.
Catalans Dragons
If it has been an inconsistent season for St Helens I’m not sure what the word is to describe the campaign that the Catalans Dragons are having although wretched is probably a good place to start. They have won just seven of their 21 matches and heading into this weekend nobody had shipped more points than them.
They now know they must win four out of seven matches over the next couple of months to retain their Super League place and it is imperative that they head into this games with some sort of structure and confidence behind them because they will be playing teams who have been winning matches all season.
Team News
St Helens have brought their captain Jon Wilkin back into their side for this match. He returns to the squad at the expense of Adam Swift who has been left out.
Catalans Dragons could well include on loan duo Lewis Tierney and Roman Navarette in their 17 for this match after the two joined from Wigan earlier this week. Jodie Broughton is missing for the visitors.

Betting
Catalans Dragons are averaging a shade more than 29pts against on average per match this season and with the ridiculous amount of penalties they give away there is no reason to think that trend won’t continue here against a St Helens side who have started finding their way to the try line a lot more recently.
On the flip side of that the Dragons do know their way to the opponents’ line and with Luke Walsh returning for the first time he could well be fired up to get a result. St Helens should win this but the better bet looks to be over 47.5pts.
